Screen/keypad Lock

13 replies · 3,936 views · Started 28 January 2004

Somehow i've managed to turn the feature off.

When the flip is closed, if I press the menu button, where 'lock keypad' would normally appear in the number one slot, it doesn't. And the screen doesn't lock automatically.

In flip open mode, if I click the battery icon, the 'lock screen' button is greyed out.

I cannot seem to enable it again (i dont even remember turning it off)

I've gone into the locks section of control panel and enabled the automatic key lock, but it doesn't seem to do anything,

All the other settings in there are set to off, is this right?

Am I missing something?

Any help much appreciated.

the functions u mentioned won't work when u have the phone on the craddle of if u r charging your phone.

otherwise, if it's happening off the cradle, then guess you deleted some related system file... tryu either Restore or Format

hope it'll work🙄

I did a backup, then a format. It all worked fine, so I did a restore from the backup, but it's back to not working again.

Is there some way to reset the system settings back to default without loosing any of my personal programs/data etc.

i.e. set all screensavers, background images and other phone settings back to default?

cheers for the help

as I though it's a missing file ....🙄

there's always the hard way to do so ... as u have to do a manual restore

or I suggest searching for the related file in C:\system\data and copy it from an old backup where the lock option was working properly!

as I said, both will take lots of time.. and effort!

good luck

I just reformatted windows on my pc and forgot to save all my backups 😞

Can anyone email me the missing file and is it possible to insert it into the correct place in the phone manually.

How on earth did I manage to delete a file like this anyway??

that's bad.... really bad...

that's the problem... we don't know which file it is.. worst of all, I'm assuming it's a missing file 🙄

well, it's your phone... and your crime 😉

The only things i really delete of my phone are read text messages!

I could revert back to total default settings, i.e, i'd lose all my text messages, installed programs pictures etc.

THat's not really a problem as i still have all the software .sis files and pictures and videos can easily be copied over to my pc in the mean time.

All my contacts are on my sim, so i wont lose any of them.

Is it possible to backup certain things like calender, messages inbox, jotter etc. without backup up installed files and user files?

You could synch with Organiser/Outlook/Notes before doing a full reset, then synch again afterwards. That way, you'll keep all your contacts, calendars, to-do's and notes. However, you'll loose any folders you had stuff sorted into (like having a contacts folder for family, one for business etc).

Then install all your programs etc.

as I said before, I suggest doing a full backup (even after having this problem) then Format your Phone, and do the restoring manually, you can get back at least 70% of your stuff easely, but you need more time to return everything (or let's say 90%) back to normal 😮

[edit]
you can use Backup inspector to get back most of the files (only if you've done the backup with PC Suit 2.0 or above)
download it from AFSoftware 😊

i messed with the internet/gprs/wap accounts... by deleting autosetup messages.... got the same problem

Have an answer!
Just change one alarm date/time and voila problem fixed!!!!

I lost my keypad Lock as well so I just backed up the data that i wanted to keep and hit the Master Reset, all is as it should be now!

It could be some software you installed thats causing the problem.

You can also do a manual backup of your files by using PC File Manager. Copy the folders/files that you want onto your PC and then copy them back to the phone after you have done a master reset.

Using the SE PC Suite Backup and then manual restore by using Backup Inspector after a master reset as suggested by handyguy can work too.

The only main problem I see here is that is it obviously a system file that is affected. But we have no idea which file or in which folder of which drive it sits in (with the obvious exception of the D drive, of course). We also have no idea whether the actual problem is whether the relevant file is deleted or its just corrupted but still there in the phone.

So, I guess you have to do it the hard way, i.e. manually backup (before master reset) or manually restore (after master reset) depending which method above you use, whatever folder or files which you are sure has no relevance to the keylock (eg messages, pictures, etc). I wouldn't worry about the contacts, calendar entries, tasks, notes (jotter) as it will be restored to the phone when you sync (assuming you do a sync process BEFORE you master reset). But you might have to reinstall your user downloaded software/progs again and key in all your settings again for stuff like gprs, wap, internet, e-mail, etc.

As an added precaution, I suggest that you move as many of your important SMS messages to your SIM Card first before you master reset.

This is tedious, but it may be a blessing in disguise.... take this as an opportunity to "clean up" the insides of our phone. You may find that there some things which you may have installed when you first got the phone but you have hardly used recently. Then you don't reinstall those seldom used stuff againto your phone. You will find that after this "cleansing", you will have a lot more C memory than before! You may even find that you have more RAM too! 😃
