Fed up with trying to find a P900

I'm getting totally bored of trying to find a P900 at a decent price on Orange. I've spent the first month of this year phoning up Link stores and online retailers only to be told over and over again that they should have stock in a few days. Of course this stock never materialises.

I'm totally thinking about either going for a 6600 or waiting for the new 7700 which should be out in a couple of months because I refuse to pay 150-200 for a p900 on a 50 a month tariff.

What I would like to know is are SE just crap at getting stock to retailers or are they trying to spur on a consumer frenzy by only releasing a trickle of phones? For Christ's sake this phone was released 3 months ago!

From what I understand, sales have been extremely good. However, there may be some good news for you. It would seem a large batch has just made it's way into the UK. Several of the on-line SIM Free retailers that had been out of stock for a while seem to have got stock in the last day or so. Might be worth trying again. Besides, you should count yourself lucky. Many of us don't live in countries where you can buy phones cheaply on contract. I'd give my right arm to pay 150 for a P900!

Oh, and the 6600 is NOT an alternative to the P900. They are completely different devices. Neither is necessarily better than the other, just different. If you can't get a P900 at a price you're happy with, by all means give the 6600 a go, but if you're looking at it as a P900 replacement you will be sorely disappointed.

okay, saying that a large batch just came through means nothing, it could be months before they're even spread around the country, if we even received any, though it can't be proven unless your the person who either delivered or received the stock. anyway, sony don't send their phones straight to the wholesaler, they go through the network first so they don't set the price, the network buys the phones off the producers and then sells it on to the customers either directly, or via a wholesaler

and my local carphoine warehouse (market street) have plenty in stock

Yeah but the 7700 is. I bet Nokia have stacks of these units out in March. I wasn't considering it as an alternative to the P900 more as a replacement for my 18 month old 7650 and its now very short battery life.

I promise you one thing...don't be suprised if you have to pay more than 200 for a 7700 on contract when it's first released!!...I paid 230 for P900 on Orange Talk 200 the day it came out and i've seen then under 200 on the 50 contracts.

Hi there,

I just wanted to confirm on the roumor of resupply on P900. I've not seen one myself yet and I'm speaking for Germany rather than the UK, but as far as the EU goes this shouldn't matter.
Anyway, I've ordered a P900 about two weeks ago from amazon.de and as expected they told me they didn't now yet when they could ship it to me. Old story. But on thursday I recived a mail from them that it has been shipped. I hoped it to arrive today, but well, life isn't always nice 😉

Point is, there seems to be resupply in Germany, if not the EU. So don't give up hope ...

I think SE must just have a real supply problem, I wonder why? You cant get the P900 anywhere at the moment on a contract, I have to say it does seem pretty poor.

Where's the explanation? I haven't even seen a real one in the flesh outside of a shop yet so they haven't exactly shipped millions of units.

The Link still dont seem to have any stock but the handsets have jumped up to 150 on a 50 contract. I think I may wait for the P1000 now or what ever it's called towards the end of this year.

I've had mine from Vodafone since the start of December; they had them within a week or two of the UK release date.
My local store in Liverpool St Station has a couple in stock right now.

Though, qball you are right, you don't see many of them around, basically because loads of people seem not to want to pay for them, either because they bought a P800 (and I see loads of those nowadays) and are not ready to upgrade, or they are still stuck in the "phones are really cheap" mentality.

I'm not having a go at you, but remember when you buy a P800/900 that you are picking up quite a smart bit of kit; not just a cellphone (they pretty much come on a single chip now) but a relatively sophisticated PDA and a camera and an MP3 player.

Try getting all the parts individually; you need to go get a phone (probably free ona contract), but then you need a Palm or IPaq (Hmm, few hundred quid there, especially if you want a mobile internet version, which you get with the P800/900 ). Digicam (another fifty quid or so), and an MP3 player (128MB remember).

I don't think you are going to get that lot for less than a few hundred, and you'll need a handbag or jacket with lots of pockets (Armani does these quite nicely for just under a grand 😊)

Basically, if you want a P900, you can get them, but you will have to cough up a couple of hundred for it, and will continue to have to do so until something better comes on the market...
and I don't think any "P1000" would come any more readily or more cheaply!

Provided you come to terms with the cost, go to Vodafone, 'cos if you look elsewhere on this site, most people with Orange branded ones seem to spend much of their time trying to un-brand them, mainly so they can upgrade the firmware 🙄

I dont mind pay for something, I just don't like the idea that I'm paying for it whilst everyone else in the UK managed to get one for free from O2 or The Link 😊

I have managed to get one from The Link who got stock back in yesterday. I picked up one on Orange OVP 400 for free but they now seem to only be free on the Your Plan 700. Hopefully The Link will honour our agreement. I also think that The Link don't have a Clawback policy so I'll move down to Your plan 200 after the first month.

C'mon everyone loves a bargin!

lol appaerntly Sony promised but didn't deliver the goods, so all P900 orders made through the Link over the last couple of days have been cancelled.

Sort it out Sony! maybe you should start by trying to organise a piss up in a brewery!

I got my P900 from OneStopPhoneStop.co.uk, after waiting since placing the order on January 12th. They might still have some. Cost me 70 on Orange YourPlan600. Damn good deal imho, I also had the joy of phoning loads of TheLink stores - I think it was all a marketing ploy on their part.

Well I've given up on trying to find a P900 and just got an Nokia 3200 as an upgrade which I will sell on ebay. I'm staying with my 7650 for a while longer yet.

I was waiting for a P800 for ages, first they said it was going to be released in June 2002 and most of us will remember the constant delays and its eventual release in February 2003, by that time i was totaly fed up with waiting and had plumped for a 7650 which I got for free as an upgrade.

To tell you the truth i'd like a P900, but not so much that I'm prepared to go to the ends of the earth to get one.

Hi guys! New to the site. I got my P900 on friday from the Link in Newcastle free on Orange 70/month. Evidently it was the last one in the North East! The guy in the shop said that there wikk be more stock within two weeks

Evidently Sony withdrew the last batch with a firmware fault

people at the link don't get told when they will receive what stock, they just receive it, therefore someone saying they will receive what from the link, isn't true

Having rang about every mobi shop in the North West i was fortunate enough to get hold of one last Thursday. I love it to bits!! Have downloaded the Simpsons tonight. Will watch it on my boat to Dublin tomorrow!!!
