Tri-Band software for nokia 7650

Hi everyone, im new here. I live in America and is so jealous that you guys have the 7650. I am planning to buy a 7650 but i heard that you can only use it in the US if you have a triband software installed on the phone. I was wondering if anyone has this software and might be able to help me out and send it to me. thanks a bunch for all the help.

I'm afraid Tri-Band isn't a piece of software. In order for the phone's to work in the US/Canada the GSM chip needs to support the GSM band used in the US (mainly 1900MHz). The 7650 doesn't. However, the 6600 does, and this is really just an improved version of the 7650, but without the nice slidy thing.

The tri-band confusion comes from the fact that phones manufactured for markets outside of the US often support more than one GSM band (900 & 1800 MHz) so they can be used more widely. More recently, they have started supporting all three of the main GSM bands, including the US. These are known as tri-band phones.

Though, to add confusion, the US has added an 850MHz band as well, so even a Tri-Band phone isn't gaurenteed to work everywhere in the US with a GSM network!

Bassey is correct.Just one more thing, there is a updated version of the 6600,with a faster processor, stereo output with EDGE support for the US market - 6620.

What phone are you talking about? If you are talking about the 6620 it will be released on a few major US operators like T-Mobile.BTW:The 6620 works on 850/1900/1800 MHz so it should work in Europe also.

850 and 1900MHz is only used in the states, and the majority (actually, more like 95%) of europe/asia/africa GSM uses 900, so the 6620 will work in hardly anywhere other than americas.

Enf...

The UK uses 900 MHz (Vodafone and O2) and 1800 MHz (Orange and T-Mobile) so it will only work with half of the UK's networks.
