Features/fixes we would like to see in the next Rom upgrade

I thought this my be a good topic area where people can vent their bugs and a wish list of what us 7650 users would like to see.

Who knows someone at Nokia may be looking in on us!

Fixes
Memory Managment.
GPRS related crashes with Email and Wap.

Additional Features to what already exists
WAP / WAP2.0 - xHTML / WEB support.
Email support for multiple accounts.
JPEG compression settings in Camera. So you could define how much compression for High, Normal, Basic in preferences. As High still sufers way too much JPEG artifacting.
Brightness/contrast option for camera.
Exposure time for camera.
Preference in Contacts list to view First, Last name or Last, First name (what the f#$@ were they thinking? Mind you atleast if you type in a letter it does give you first name and last name results.. Thank god!).
Copy and Paste feature would be nice!
GPRS connection options in Connectivity for easy turn on , turn off.
More interesting screensaver.
Ability to customise the colour of the interface vs the 3 options.
Psions OPL basic language would be nice 😊 (ok, I know I'm dreamin'😉.

Accessories
Bluetooth Headset.
Foldup keyboard (I guess connection would have to be bluetooth dunno if they exist but god it would be nice for when typing emails!).
Genuine Nokia screen protectors being AVAILABLE!!!
1500mAh Batteries :P
Car Kit

Cut and Paste already exists. Hold down the ABC key and move the cursor back across the typed word or phrase, then you have the option to Cut or Copy.

Additions to List:

Fixes

1) Fix that damn 100k Protected Memory problem. That's not actually a bug, it's just forgetful programming.
2) In Snake EX why on level 3 is the snake pointing in the wrong direction at the start? It is vrtually impossible to get past it.
3) Make Club Nokia Photo Zone Less flakey. Some times it works sometimes is doesn't.

Additional Features

1) If there is ANY possible way we can get the Audo Bluettooth Profile in an upgrade, then PLEASE give us it.
2) I second all of the features above.

Accessories

1) The Sony Ericsson T68i has a cool MMC based hands-Free/MP3 player which is nice and cheap. I know it's daft... but it would be nice.

Someone should definately compile this list and slap it on the desk of the head Nokia bloke.

I'd like them to make it easier to browse large lists (at least give us a PageUP/PageDN).

Amen to the above requests - and a big hand for the Copy/Paste tip!!!!!

I think MORE MEMORY, I know this isn't acheivable in a software upgrade but this is getting damn annoying, or maybe something that connects to the phone that could hold stuff, sort of like the MCA20 does to the T68i. Silly idea buy, I need more memory. There must me a way.

Certainly more memory one way or another.
By default web browding enabled with a proper explorer.
I whish the handsfree could be set as default when you answer the phone and not to have to press the key on the left of the phone every time.

Thanks for the tip on the cut and paste. When I was trying it, i pressed and held the menu button while I moved my joytick. I was surprised that it showed me all of the programs I had running, I had 6 running that I thought were closed.. 😊

Also, I would like in the patch for the loud speaker louder... alot louder..

And I would purchase a bluetooth ram drive. It is practicle as the phone couldn't be cheaply upgraded. hehe, it actually makes perfect sense todo it this was, I don't know why I didn't think of it b4.

with the open apps, it reminds me of the way mac os looks... the finder has just been replaced with telephone...

(ex mac tech)

How about some software features which are still missing (god knows why):
Adding alarm to memo and _todo_ (!!!! how would i know i have something to do if it doesn't remind me?)
Putting contacts which have an entries in the Birthday field automatically into the todo list

If Nokia doesn't add this feature(s) I hope there is a programmer out there who can help!!

greetings,
Chris

- Higher volume for the ear-piece
- Check for new e-mail option when connected to mailbox (without
the need to disconnect and connect again)

1. Settings for Keypad Lock, (automatic, off, ask).
2. More options for photo compression.
3. A selection of screen savers, maybe a large analog clock.
4. More than 1 minute recording.
5. Web browser.
6. Recursive alarm.
7. When you add a birthday in a contact it should at least have a small icon or something at that date to remind you.

Fix bug retrieving e-mail. Tried multiple times over a couple of days to access my e-mail the other day and the phone just stuck on the connecting to mailbox message. Switched the phone off and back on and it connected OK. I know that the servers were OK during this period as I accessed via other methods.

A more conveinient way of locking the keypad when the phone is in the closed position, there is a power button menu option (right at the bottom i only just found it) but I find its quicker to quickly open and shut the keypad, which can't be good for the phone.

My wishlist is have a html web browser, have a bluetooth enable earpiece, have a mobile phone version of MS-Office application and a fax application so that can send and get fax direct from N7650.

Most of the above - yeah.

But a more integrated calendar, task list (to do) and contacts with the ability to set alarms on any of those (I think someone else already said something similar).

Also, I suppose I'll get into a rant here if you let me, some decent applications from the developer community. If nobody can think past time clocks, zip manager, etc ...

I mean, here you have a device with a truly extendable platform (in the sense of being able to access services to go with them) and all you guys can think up are dead beat, relatively low value, utilities and games. 😮ops:

To be fair, the 7650 hasn't been around that long, and I'm kind of glad that the developers have first concentrated on getting us the basic utilities before looking at what else can be done.

Applications like Zip Manager, SeleQ and Epocware's Handy series may seem like deadbeat stuff, but I personally would rather that these basic tools be provided first and then the fancy stuff, than the other way around.

Now, you could argue that Nokia should have provided many of these beforehand; but that would be a different issue 😉

I C your point ... there are base applications missing from the device and there is a need for these sorts of things. I suppose I am influenced by what I see with the 9200 category ... lots of low value tools that are badly programmed (occupy too much memory or just plain dont work well) and very few value adding applications that people might be really interested in. 😉

A feature to set a 'priority' number so that if you have two contacts with the same number (I have my own personal business card and my girlfriend's 'home' number as the same) then the phone won't get confused and just display the number, as it's obviously not going to be me who is calling.

Typo! The above should read 'priority contact' not 'priority number'.

In IMAP boxes it checks new emails automatically once in 5 minutes

make all menus wrap at the end so when i go to the end and press down it goes all the way up again, and if i am at the top, pressing up will take me to the last item.

and maybe they should be bigger from the start, not only showing 5-6 items

oh, and make the RemoteSync software a part of the ROM!

I've got a friend at Symbian who recently copied me on an email asking for the Top 5 Functions, and the Top 5 Desired Functions.

I've copied him a link to this thread, but I'm going to start a new thread for those items. So speak up!

there's two things who should be added:

- There's something really wrong with the contact list. each time you change it, either to add or delete sometinhg (and THAT's the weirdest thing...) it eats memory.... Why, it does this happen. it's just not normal...

- The other thing it could be implemented, is the key lock of the phone. it's only possible to do that in the "power button" but if it could be assigned as a right/left soft key, it would be much easier and easy to do i guess.

- You're mostly saying good aspects that should be repaired. Not the memory thing, that's a good issue but i guess it's not "doable", but the reminder's alarm (or lack of it), the birthday thing and the first, last name...

But who believe that nokia is reading this? not me... 😞

cheers

hey, great thread, not one but TWO 'easter eggs' / hidden features - the copy/paste and the 'running programmes' key. How about some kind of FAQ that lists these and others, on this forum ?

All I can contribute is that WebViewer is already available (though not built in) as an HTML browser, and works pretty well. I loaded up my Pocket PC/Palm friendly websites off my PPC, and now hardly use my Pocket PC for the things I used to (BBC news website, Yahoo, mail, British Airways PDA site, Expedia, etc. etc.).

-Yeppers definitely Menu Wraping, so you dont have to scroll all the way down to exit for example when your up the top of the menu.

-And yes automatic lock feature, or something a setting so you can change how it locks the keypad that pop up everytime you close it is a pain

-A memory compression utility would probably be nice, theres one floating around in one of the apps for download, and it works well but a built in one would be better

-THE BIG ONE, a file manager, so no need to install 3rd party apps, just a default filemanager already in there.

Get that going and I would be 1000% happy with this phone 😊
Press Menu and move the joystick? I couldn't get it to work...
It works for me by just holding the menu for a couple of seconds. No need to touch the joystick.

I would like to see some more work done on cleaning the sync with outlook features. I find it very buggy. EG i add a contact on the 7650 then sync and it adds the contact into outlook but with loads of blank fields. Also if i create an alarmed schedule in outlook it goes into the 7650 ok and says the alarm is on but the alarm does not go off.

The Bluetooth fix for headsets would be good too.

Hopefully my P800 (when it arrives) will be a lot more refind
