6600 Review and some ...

16 replies · 3,533 views · Started 31 January 2004

I'm going to buy a 6600 in 2 weeks time.
I read a revview about it on www.mobileburn.com and there were some serious problems according to the review.
One of them I've attached!
Do you see this problem in your handset?
What other problems does it have?
That's a real turn-oof in camera mode!
It has horizontal lines when viewfinding and in the view finder!

Q : Do you see this problem in your handset?
A : No. That was a hardware problem of just a few handsets

Q : It has horizontal lines when viewfinding and in the view finder
A : No way. No horizontal lines at all.

Q: What other problems does it have?
A: There are a few bugs with SMS with firmware version 3.42.1
but firmware version 3.48.0 corrects them.
Check the version with the keys *#0000*

Sorry !

I have version 3.42.1, what are the problems with SMS that you mention?
and also how can i update firmware? there is no nokia shop near me at all.

6600 is a real beauty.
Unlike other Nokia handsets this one really boasts an A for the design and look.
U just want to look at it over and over again. At least I did!

Don't believe everything you read on the Internet.

The only problems I have come across are missing call divert menu and network selection, which can be fixed by a hard reset of the phone.

Some voice commands do not work using Bluetooth. For example messaging or contacts voice command does not show these functions.

Apart from that, the Nokia 6600 is a brilliant phone, and I have no regrets in buying one. 😃

I didn't gett it!
Are you saying that 6600 is short of some features?
How's the speed?
Tell me more!
I want tto be 100% sure tthatt i'm buying the best when i go there and buy!

The 6600 is a good smartphone. The Sendo X hasn't launched as yet, and the Siemens SX1 is pricey and some bugs still there. However if money is not your constraint, then buy the P900😃

Most of the 'Bug' reports are from people who got the phone from Orange.
Orange took a good phone and mangled the software, all other versions are meant to be fine.

I bought a 6600 offline direct from an official Nokia Supplier.

It works fine, there are no flaws, no bugs and all is well.
The only problems I have are with the operator and getting the settings for GPRS etc working, this is NOT a phone problem.

Its a great phone. Just remember that there are compatibility issues with existing software, I had a 7650 and most of my programs dont work on the 6600. There are threads about this in this forum somewhere.

What bugs ?

Mine is from Orange direct and is perfect 😃 😃

I f you are talking about the missing Call Divert and network select menu, then these are easily fixed with *#7370#.

There is no other issues that I am aware of ?

Nokia has far better antenna than sonyericsson!

If antenna is the key factor -then Maybe Nokia might be better. Don't forget you are buying a smartphone, that's why I suggested the P900.

It has touch screen
Good UI
Great looks ( better than 6600) 😉

If u just wan't a phone for receiving and making calls why not buy a Nokia series 40 phone?

yes, the SX1 is still pricey however most bugs are now gone thanks to the new firmware...

given the chance, I would gladly swap my 6600 for an SX1... the stereo sound is amazing (a friend has one)... 😉

I actually like the organization of everything on the OS based phone and specially like the new look of the 6600 series.
Also i need specific software like personal management, finances, answerin machine, etc... which 6600 easily supports!😎

The P900 looks like crap it looks like an oversized brick with a kak flip tihng that just gets in the way.

Mines from Orange no problems here all works perfectly and extremly stable.

Well, everyone can have different opinions. To me, the 6600 is a "Bulging" design.😉 The call & end buttons are akwardly placed on the sides.
Moreover half of the apps for the 7650/3650 don't work on the phone.

I bought a 6600 on orange about a week ago.. the phone had one dead pixel and one flashing red stuck pixel in the middle of the screen. Same day I exchanged it for another orange 6600, which also had a flashing red stuck pixel in the middle. The 2nd one was so tempremental I thought it was a pile of crap. It kept freezing and re-booting itself even with the latest orange firmware (3.49). Also it didn't come with any applications on the MMC. I was told new stock would not be arriving for at least two weeks so I changed to Vodafone (unbranded version with no network customisations) and this one had no pixel problems and no freezing or re-booting.

I found on two occasions the orange ones were in a bad way. I don't see why they have to put their own firmware on it because from personal experience it screws up the phone!
