If the screen gets scratched what can you do, the glass looks to be separate from the actual lcd behind, can you replace the glass or failing that the whole lcd and at what cost?

If you scratch your screen the easy option is to just replace the phones cover.
From Nokia a genuine cover I think is going to be about �30+ for all the covers, eg. front, back and I have seen in some cases the chassis of the phone to where all the electronics are mounted to.
At a market last weekend I saw a stall with supposedly 'genuine' nokia coloured covers for �12.99, but how well they fit is another thing.
There have been quite a few threads on various forms of coloured covers on Ebay with varied prices from �1.99 - �2.99. But reports from people who brought them then say some do not fit at all well which is a shame.
As for the LCD screens, yes they can be changed quite easily I'd imagine for the experienced. As for the cost I cannot say.

so if it did get scratched you could buy replacement cover components from nokia which would contain the screen cover(glass/plastic?) without having to replace the actual lcd display?

Yeah thats right, if it's just the screen don't worry it can be changed.
There is a lot of talk about other facias and how relatively easy it is to remove yourself from the 6600. Be aware if you make any marks on the phone Nokia will invalidate your warrenty so be careful if you try replacing yourself if the need arises.

Those cases look horrible.
If your display window gets too scratched you can buy a tube of Displex. It is a polish that you rub into the screen with a cotton cloth.
It is specially made for removing scratches from mobile phone windows. I have used it professionally when I used to work in phone repairs.
You only need to use a very small amount, and so the small tube lasts for a long time.
I think Carphone Warehouse sell it if you ask them.
Just search the net for Displex, and you will find it.

yes, they do look horrible and they are utter $h|t imo and as soon as i put them on, i removed them straight away.
i'll stick to my light grey for now, but hopefully the rest of the rose housing will come next week so i can finally get the whole original rose housing which imo is the nicest looking colour
i have still yet to see the champange one though
