Cool tried both and 70 seems better just waiting for it to finish converting for 75 but the first 10seconds still is blank what video files are the best to convert .Avi or .mpg

Good, I'm glad your getting it sorted out mate.
One idea though try and keep replys in the same thread, rather than creating new ones like you have here.
This is for two reasons:
1. So you don't have the moderators after you for unnecessary new posts, they will tell you again I'm sure.
& 2. So I can easily reply and find out how your getting on, so then I learn more as we go along.
As for the best type of file to start with? Hmm, from what I've done I don't think it matters. As long as the original clip quality is good the outcome will always be the same.
Also, the blank section of video your refering to. Is that on the video file your converting? If so cut it out using Vitual Dub, eg. select the portion of film you want to convert.
