Could the 7650 be used as a remote control as other palmtops which have infra red?? or does the infra red work only for a few cm??
7650 remote control??
This would be gr8 !
nuff sed really !
Bring on the Handy series ! Handy Remote ( For those occasions that the missus has lost the remote control AGAIN ! ) 😊
Would be easy enough to do software wise. All depends on how grunty the IR is as to how effective it is. I say BRING IT ON!! 😃 😃
if it works as good as the palm omniremote with the builtin ir then you only have to walk all the way to the tv to switch channels. the transmitting diode weren't that good on the palm .. maybe it's stronger in the phone.
Don't expect more than 10cm or less range for infrared!!!
Just for the fun it would be grate not that anyone could use it!!

Not true, I use "TV Remote Control" from PDAWin.com on a Toshiba E310 and it works from at least 12ft away. Not sure how powerful the IR on the phone is as PDA's generally have IrDA ports and the phone may just be standard IR.
Well TV n video remotes only have IR too, not IrDA.
The thing with using the IR for changing channels is youre not sending a huge amount of changing data at 115kbps, its a constant looping signal for each button and the reciever only has to pick it up once to get its sample so a weaker signal is more useable for this purpose.
What you do need though is the ir codes for all the tvs in the world ever. 😃
Or the simplest method is to copy your existing remote using a 'learn' function to copy button to button.
Cheers

I am sure it would be more than that. The recomended distance for Irda is no more than a metre 100cm. But this old now. I have used the 7650 almost 1.5 metres away from my laptop before i lost the link. I am not sure if it was the laptop or the 7650 which could not stretch any further but todays Irda does seem to stretch a lot further. My Clie for example uses an enhanced IR and can be used over 9 metres away from the TV when used as a remote. (could not get any further away from tv). I have not been able to test it with another Irda device though as i do not have anything else that will stretch that far.
It would be nice to to get omniremote ported to the 7650 OS even if it is only a metre or just over you get.
there are plenty of learning remote programs available for palm os so maybe someone could trasfer one of those programs into symbian os!!
