Connect Nokia 7650 to PC by An infrared connection

what kind of infrared device are you using? USB? Serial? integrated on a laptop? a dongle? manufacturers name etc?

MAN! Why isnt everything nice and clear?
Theres always been compliants about infra red and the PC suit, and i have some q's too!!!

I'm a man of few words, so: Any thing i need to know ? (i got an integrated laptop infra red thing)

And it would be nice if someone would start with the basics 😊 i dont really read instruction manuals 😃 (they're always too long or too short!)

IF had the infrared transceiver connected via cerial or usb or to pc you would just install the setup cd that comes with the device (external) i did that and after the infrared was recognised as a device by the computer then the pc suite works fine.

Now for the laptop you will probably have to let the computer know there is an infra red port available - goto control panel -system - device manager and for example on my computer i have "infrared devices: ir520s infrared serial device" on you computer you should have something equivalent.

There are two ways to use the infra red port either use a specific program like nokias pc suite to make use of the port or windows xp "wireless link" which you can install in network devices. 😮

either way as soon as you bring an irda capable device near to the computers infra red port just try from the mobile to send via infrared a message or something and immediatelly the computer should respond to the request. :-?

i have windows xp , external cerial infra red port and with 7650 works just fine. 😉

I have just sussed this, you have to disable any software you have which acts as a fire wall, then works fine.
