I went to a Nokia Authorized Service centre to get my 7650 firmware updated from v3.16 to the latest, "no problem" they said "come back in 2 hours" lovely I thought and all for a tenner.
2 hours later "sorry sir there is a problem with the on/off switch, and the flash failed but thats our fault can you come back tomorrow?" ok I thought they broke it they fix it, fair enough.
The next still not working they tried to give it back, I said it was working when I brought it in so I want working when I collect it, 3 days later still not working and they are still trying to give it back.
What can I do now?????????😡
No suprise, my 7650 has been back 3 times, and returned 3 times with exactly the same fault.
The first 2 times they said they had flashed it, but it still had all my contacts and messages still in it.
So I accused them of not actually doing anything and they went ballistic at the accusation, so I said how did the contacts survive the flash?
Sometimes they do they said.
The third time they promised they had discovered the actual fault and all was well, picked it up turned it on in front of the assistant and it was exactly the same, contacts, bookmarks, dialled calls all in the memory and still the same fault.
They had quite clearly switched it on, switched it off and signed it off fixed.
I am now in the middle of strained talks to get a new one.
Try writing e-mails to Nokia officials. It helped me once.I don't have any e-mails,sorry.
Actaully, my Mrs took her 7650 into a carphone warehouse to get the firmware updated. It was one of the early firmwares and would frequently drop it's GSM connection, battery was rubbish etc.
When she picked it up, all of the contacts etc were in there BUT, some of the games she'd uninstalled to free up space were back in there and the problems with the dropped signal, eratic battery etc have gone (still no probs five months later). I never bothered to actually check the firmware to make sure they did it. But everything points to them having updated it even though all her contacts were still in there?
Bassey, some NSC's do a restore after they update the firmware and to check if everything is OK they install software on it,in your case, games.

But they didn't restore my P800 that I got updated at the same time. That's favouritism! Though, to be fair, she IS a lot prettier than I am!
Sadly it seems NSCs breaking phones isn't uncommon. Before Christmas I gave my 3650 to the NSC to get the firmware upgraded from v2.50 to v4.13, however they broke it during the process and I was without the phone for a couple of months while they sent it to Nokia.
Our local NCS will do a restore of all data files after flashing the device. So you get the new firmware with your calendar and contacts still in place as well as all your other software.
OK so whats the nest step, they just say its beyond economical repair, I keep telling them it was working when I gave it to them so it did not need repair, I have asked them to replace or pay for it, no joy, so how do I get in touch with nokia? I can find any contact numbers or emails on the web site just SC's.
Or is anything else I can do, surely this has something to do with consumer rights, right?
Thanks.
well . as long as the NSC' cant make any proof of damage that is cased by you. you can demand them to at least send it Nokia with a note from you telling the whole story. If the phone is damaged by moist or falldamage, the NSC wont be paid by nokia for guarantee-repairs.(or will/can promise a successfull repair) so then they will charge the owner for the job insteed. i dont know if your phone still has guarantee though, and i dont know what customer-laws u have in your country. But do send it in and complain about the product. (you can complain to the shop where u bought the phone, or to nokia) Is the phone under guarantee and NSC broke it - they should clean up their mess or at least send it to nokia for repair or new phone if u ask me....
Just had mine done, the first flash failed, no menu button working, took it back and they phoned Nokia who said that if the phone is full of info and Apps that can course the flash to fail, they recommended that the phone be totally formated first then re set then flashed, This seemed to work but my GPRS is having problems connecting now 😞
