Was just wondering of those who have both capabilities - what works better for general transferring and file management - Bluetooth or infrared?
I had neither on my computer so I bought a Bluetooth PC card when I got my 7650. It works ok for some things but seems to have some limitations/problems - just wondering whether it's worth getting some kind of external infrared gadget as a backup.
(in which case, extra question - any recommendations?!?)
But I, and I'm sure other newbies, would be interested to hear general opinions on what has worked best for you. Thanks!!
Hi im not to sure about the ir devices but i am definately happy with my bluetooth device which is a TDK USB Bluetooth Adaptor, since i have bought it i have had no problems with it what so ever. But if anyone else has knowlege of how the ir device are for performance then i would be interested to see the comparison. 8)

Which dongle are you using?
I'm using the BT 500 from Acer at www.acer-euro.com
Everything works fine, but i CAN'T send files from the phone to the pc, vice versa works
i dont think you can send any file from your phone to PC
this is a bug that nokia must take note of!!!
btw im using Poke 2 bluetooth module
Using the Mitsumi adapter I have I CAN send files from phone to PC. using the MSI one I CAN'T.
This is a PC side software issue which im sure will be fixed in updates from MSI, TDK etc. I think its because the PC software is only set up to accept
Business Cards,
Calender Itmes
Email messages
Notes
No option for other files. hmmmm

That is a wery stupid thing to say,if its a bug,and should not exist, then how should i backup my phone. You must be able to send files from phone to PC,i backed up the images folder couple of times now
Both method works for me. Everthing, sending/recieving to/from computer .. and .. sending/recieving to/from phone 😃
Infrared : Mobile Action
USB Bluetooth adaptor : 3COM
NO BUG
My MCI Bluetooth dongle (USB) arrives tomorrow. Dont have the phone yet! (that comes on Sat) - But one thing at a time!
Everything works fine for me... I'm using the 3Com USB dongle... I used the TDK bluetooth dongle before, but the drivers did not work 100% on my WInXP machine....
Just to clarifiy guys, when I say can or cant send file I mean by for instance going into Images on the phone selecting a photee and chosing Send-Via Bluetooth from the menu. I wasnt talking about Sync-ing or using PC Suite, which works on both dongles.
Cheers

That's what I mean  ... sending just one single photo file to my computer.
(Any photo I send via bluetooth will go to a folder of my choice(setting option which comes with 3COM USB dongle), and photo I send via infrared will automatically go to My Documents/My Pictures folder.)

What I mean you can't transer file such as midp midlets or even application from your phone to your PC!!!! Because the Pc suite only support sync the phone data, images only!!! They don't support sync ing The APLLICATIONS and JAVA MIDLETS!!!

(please read my other post carefully before you post something offensive such as STUPID!!!)
lol you people need to spend less time playing with your bluetooth, infa red and other communication devices and focus on actual communication skills.
I believe if you calm down and go back and read deevons posts you will see where this breakdown in communication occured.
none thats sorted out.......
If I buy a Bluetooth thing, so I can connect my phone to PC via Bluetooth
can I
1. Use the phone as a modem?
2. If so what speed does it run at?
hi OsirisMedia :P
can you transfer java games or any games or aplliccation from your 7650 to PC ?
please tell me if I'm wrong but if tried a lot of ways and it still wold"nt work 😞
Welll for using it as a modem , i haven't tried that yet :P
Nah I dont have a device to do it, im looking at getting a bluetooth device.
But I hear what was being said, the PCsuite doesnt support other files types thus it cant be sent.
However I do believe that one of those filemanager apps allows you to send any file, if I recall.
If not you could just rename the file to .jpg and then send em.
A lot of talk about the vagaries of BT - but little said about IrD ... I was quite amazed at how quick IrD was ... but still probably hanker for buying a BT based device for ease of use - i.e. not having to have the phone pointed at the Notebook ... I would rather do it from my desktop PC most of the time.
I found the grief involved in endlessly closing Outlook on my PC, copy the Outlook files to the Notebook and then run it up there, synchronising with the phone etc. But then you might forget to close Outlook on the portable, then carry on using it on my main workstation next thing you know the Notebook is cleaning out the incoming mail before your workstation can grab it.
When this first happened to me, after much copying and moving later I think I got it all back into one place. Of course what I have done since then is to set up Outlook on the Notebook to look at the files on the Workstation (across my internal network) ... hence avoiding the problem in future - but even that is a process fraught with problems for the uninitiated.
This just goes to show the difficulty of synchronisation when it is always with the PC it implies that the user only has one machine perhaps what we need is a reasonably priced Network based mechanism for synchronisation - I mean, what do I care where the data actually is.
