hey, first off let me say im new, i got my phone a week ago and its awesome.

now, everything works great except agile messenger. when i try to log on to AIM, it wont connect for some reason. it will try to connect but fail. im connecting via t-zones (tmobile, US) GPRS. is this the problem? thanks in advance.

Mr Gar wrote:I also can't connect via O2 GPRS. GPRS works for email and web though :?

has anyone solved this yet?

Hi,

are u able to connect to other accounts, such as msn, icq, etc (if you have one).

I mean, do you have this problem only with aim or aren'Tyou able to connect at all ?

Regards,

im from australia so i dont know what the US gprs setting are, but my standard optus network wap internet connection didnt work for opera or for agile messenger, i just had to create a new access point called "Optus Internet" with just the default setting, and i with that access point i can now connect to both opera and agile messenger. Maybe something similar will work for you?

I developed my solution from browsing the opera web browser web site. So you might want to check it out

I have had my Nokia 6600 for weeks now and have constantly been back and forth with T-Mobile USA tech support and connection specialist. They have no idea why I cannot connect to AIM using the installed version or a third party version (i.e. Agile Mobile).

If I could find settings here in the US that would work with my service and give me access to Agile Mobile I would be the happiest person here...until my T-Zones go out again =)

Any ideas?
J

Here try this , go to tools, setting, connection, access points. Press options go to new access point select it and use default setting.

Here is the list of the setting for the access point:

Connection name : T-mobile Internet
Data Bearer : GPRS
Access point name : internet2.voicestream.com
User name : none
Prompt password : no
Password : (Leave as is)
Authentication : Secure (should already be set at that)
Homepage : None

Now i dont live in the us, and dont know if this will definately work, but this is the exact procedure that i followed and i can now access msn using agile messenger. Hope this works for you , post and let me know.

I didn't even get an aim client w/ my phone. T-Mobile USA (both of them). I'm probably just being dumb on that one. I think T-mobile cracked down on the connections so that MIGHT work, but you shouldn't be able to connect to that access point w/o subscribing to t-mobile internet. T-Mobile is always telling ppl to turn security off on that phone btw. If it works it's all good. Just hope they don't try some billing scam. Theoretically the password is all blank (they really are clueless if they're trying to stop people getting free access and they let you connect w/o authentication).

Does your AIM work from t-zones?

i didnt get an aim client with my phone either, i downloaded agile messenger since its free ware from their site.

I didnt know there was some specific password subscribing service to T mobile. I thought T mobile was just the name of a mobile carrier like Optus or Telstra which are the biggest ones in australia.

Also make sure that your mobile provider has sent you the right configuration settings for the 6600. I had a customer today who had settings sent to his phone, but they werent the right settings for the 6600. Just try it out anyway and well see what happens eh?? 😉

I'm not sure what T-Mobile USA or anywhere else is doing w/ the passwords, but you shouldn't be able to connect to the internet ap if you don't subscribe to the service. The Internet Access Point is the one they sell for 19.95 so you can use your phone as an unlimitted internet connection to your laptop/pc/mac/pda. The techs out here are kinda clueless though.

EX:

"can you stop sending me sms that I have voicemail and activate the stupid little tape thing?"

"erm...uhm...I'm not sure if we can do that"

"well it is kinda a standard... message waiting indicator....I've been using it in 5 different countries with more providers than I have fingers and it's been working for years"

"hmnn... let me see.... no we don't support it. It isn't available on our network hardware"

"well do you have any plans to implement a standard feature on your network? I noticed that you share base sites with cingular and they do support mwi."

"No, I don't believe we have any plans to support it"

"so you're telling me that you have the same voiceimail access location, the same cell sites, shared roaming where my phone actually says cingular, and you can't get the message waiting indicator to work even though they can on the same equipment"

"Well it's just not something that we can do with our equipment"

At this point I realized that gprs was so slow because everyone was stealing it and they had no idea about how to implement imei and/or password authentication because the techs are essentially M(r/s/rs/iss) letters after their name who have never been on an airplane, let alone an aeroplane and think gsm is an english acronym. I can't believe dt went to the trouble of deploying in the US w/o at least importing some people with one iota of experience.

Ex 2:

"My phone exhibitted two error messages, dropped the backlight then would NOT turn on until I took the battery out. Is there any basic troubleshooting information you can provide me?"

"we can send you a new battery"

"ok fine" (arrange it)

"you could also go to the store and they could troubleshoot it"

*rotflol*

"excuse me, aren't your stores merely sales outlets with no technicians, no testing equipment, and nobody with anything but sales experience?"

"well yes, we do our tech support by phone or send our phones to somewhere for 21 day repairs"

"So what you're saying is that there really isn't anything that they could do in the store that I couldn't do right now or that you could tell me about"

"hold on I'm just getting that battery sent out to you"

...

Given this level of knowledge I asked this pertinent question:

"I can't access the internet access points from my phone unless I pay 19.95 is that correct?"

"yes, and it will take 3 days to add you to the system so it's active"

"So as long as I don't subscribe to that service, the only thing I can be billed for regarding gprs or data connectivety is my flat rate t-zones 4.99 per month plan right"

"That's correct. Unless you subscribe to the service we won't bill you for it"

(If you bothered to read through the spam above you'll see the point)

The policy may be different where you are, but I believe aim and messenging was an advertised feature w/ my phone so you can make the service call, get them to admit they won't bill you for things you don't subscribe to no matter what data you access and not worry about it before trying and just hope it works.

And Please let it work!

I'm NOT saying you should defraud your mobile operator, just that you should make sure you won't get billed if you use that AP. (For t-mobile two things seem standard..toggle name to either nokia or nothing/none and turn security on and off).

I have attempted many various connection types and am still unable to connect to AIM, Yahoo, MSN, etc via the T-Mobile US on my Nokia 6600.

Their tech support and connections specialist (when I can get one on the phone) sound as if they're clueless and they have been of no help to me.

I believe that the "internet2.voicestream.com" setting is reserved for a specific internet service that T-Mobile provides that cost around 16.50 a month and I see no need to pay for that when I have full service DSL at home and work.

I only want the AIM service that comes with my phone to work via T-Zones as it did on my previous phone which was a Nokia 6610

I was looking at T-Mobile's tech support that they provide on their web site and they don't even offer support for the 6600 yet even though I bought it from them. I called Nokia and they told me that T-Mobile must not have the correct settings for the 6600, but unfortunately that was as far as they could help me.

I am still waiting for an AOL rep to get back to me.

I'll keep everyone updated, but so far I am disapointed in my connectivity problems. Even Bluetooth is giving me problems :frown:

Nope...doesnt work. TMobile US has an internet account which is different from the WAP account and you have to pay a lot more for it. So, unless you are paying for the internet account, changing the address to "internet" or "internet2.voicestream.com" doesnt do anything and not even the built in browser will work. So for us here in the US, especially on Tmobile, there are 2 solutions: pay $19.99 a month extra, or hope AgileMobile changes it back so that it connects to a master server. As a matter of fact, IM+ and TipicME also DO NOT WORK with tmobile for the exact same reason.

So have you tried using "internet2.voicestream.com", because i think jasonT said that tech support admitted that if you dont subscribe to it you dont have to pay for it but it might still work???

Sorry i have no idea why a mobile network would make you pay extra just for an access point. In Australia its an optional service that you can have activated and then you just pay the standard usage charges.

Sounds like your having some awful hassles. Dont worry im gradually working through every issue ive had with the phone and when you solve one you feel like a super hero 😃 .................

What just me?? 😉

Ok, after many long hours of reading and researching I am still only left with a theory about why my AIM doesn't work, but I think it's a good theory.

Apparently T-Mobile's WAP is 1.1 and doesn't support WAP 2.0 which is what the Nokia 6600 uses. If I am understanding everything correctly (doubtful) then I wouldn't be able to connect using the T-Mobile AIM connection through their WAP because it might not be supported by my phone.

Any thoughts?

Also, the only T-zone settings that will work for me thus far are the standard wap settings from Nokiausa.com

I still have more research to do, but I will keep everyone up to date as I go. Much more of this and I will be a WAP expert =)

I'm also having problems with Agile, although I'm on 02, I've got Opera and WAP working fine and dandy but no luck with Agile, seems that it needs to have a proxy option similar to Opera...*sigh*

😃

Jay / Blue Phoenix......I just got confirmation that it will not work on Agile or AOL AIM. Nokia is fixing and will have a firmware update soon to correct. I have a 6620 but they said it effects both 6600 and 6620 phones. {{ Something to do with the TCP/IP???}} You can call them (NOKIA UK /or USA and confirm for yourself) I have a T637 Sony Ericsson and Samsung SGH-E317 and both work well with the Agile and AOL AIM messengers)

Actually, everyone that I have talked to at Nokia has told me the exact same thing. They all say that the AIM client used via T-Mobile is not something that comes with the phone, but is provided through T-Mobile via T-Zones. I kind of already thought this, but unfortunately no one with T-Mobile has been able to help me as of yet because they don't know enough about the phone. I have however been told that a T-Mobile will be calling me soon. I will offer my services to them for free so that we can hopefully get this connectivity problem fixed. Again, I will update everytime that I get new info. I think a lot of the problem has to do with the internal settings of the phone. =<

Correction to my previous post: Should have read that a T-Mobile engineer would be calling me soon...Not that a T-Mobile would be calling me soon. Sorry about that...Typing on the phone.

(((THUD))) - The sound of me giving up on T-Mobile Engineer contact after 20+ attempts at getting them to hold up to what they have promised...

T-Mobile promised me that I would be contacted within 24 hours by an engineer on multiple occasions. Each time that I called them back to inquire about the call that I never received I was told that the notes in their system show "Engineer left voice mail for customer and is waiting on call back" or "ticket closed"

I never received even one voicemail from any T-Mobile engineer, but they swear that it has been left for me and then the ticket closes if I fail to call the number left in the voicemail within a certain amount of time. However, to make things even more complicated, they are unable to provide me with the phone number that was supposedly left in a voicemail.

20+ attempts thus far...

I am not and have not given up, but who knows when I will be able to post a useful post regarding the engineer call.

Again, I will update if I hear anything, but don't be supprised if this takes a while.

Sorry, I am trying...promise =)

I learned something cool tonight. If you send a text message to "4646" and for the body, put "-AIM s/n-space-password" and it is the manual AIM login for T-Mobile America. Sending a blank txt msg to "4647" to do a manual log-off. Works, but it uses a lot of txt msgs.

[i do have a tmobile and agile that connects yahoo aol and icq been using it for couple of months FOR NOKIA 6600 if you interested email me be happy to send the one i have works thru gpsr there is not push talk button and send image does not work but every thing else is working fine

the new 3.30 version will not work thru gpsr u need tcp connection and some ports open which u need to call your service provider and switch your tzones to tmobile internet which cost more

DOES YOUR YAHOO CONNECTS IF NOT I GOT ONE THAT WORKS EMAIL ME AND I SEND IT TO YOU

I really wish they wouldnt make programs that clearly dont work, eg Agile Messenger ive spent endless hours trying to connect, and nothing, only concusion Agile Messenger is another waste of time, :icon13:
