For free, then why not use the built in RealPlayer.
Convert your music using RealOne on your PC to real format and copy it to your phone.
Sound is as good as any MP3 player, only downside is that realplayer has no track manager or playlist, but if thats not important to you then your all set.
What I used to do is copy my CD as one big wav file, all the tracks in a single file, then convert that .wav to real format .rm then put that on the phone and use realplayers fastforward option to skip to the track I wanted, you soon learn where to forward to.
