Replacing MBM files?

6 replies · 3,292 views · Started 01 March 2004

Hello Peeps,

I have extracted some MBM files from my phone (autolock.mbm & startup.mbm) using a file mananger and copyed them to my Pc. I have opened the MBM files and extracted the BMP's, I then edited the BMP's and recomplied them back into MBM files. Now im trying to get them back to the phone. The files are located in the z:\ drive. These are read only, I cannot overwrite these files!!

Anyone provide any help in this matter?

Hi,

What you are trying to do is not easily done mate.

Unless you :

1. Work for Nokia.
2. Are very skilled
3. And/or have a lot of money spare

you cannot touch the Z: drive on your 6600.
It is the flash Rom and needs specialist equipment to read and alter in any way.

The right equipment can be brought, but what for at the end of the day? Without the proper knowledge you will only kill your phone and then the warrenty will be cream crackered.

Best option, buy yourself some nice apps to change other things to your liking.

Ian

Lol, I just spotted your in Huntingdon I live in Biggleswade 😊

Thanks Ian.

I am 2 of those things!! 😎

I'll look into a few things and see what happens, Im not to worried about the warrenty!

Not really liking 3rd party apps to do things which I know is possible, I will get there!

Yeah.......Huntingdon is great! 🙄

lol

Your welcome mate.
I'm going to phone Communicade in Huntingdon soon to see if they have the latest firmware yet.

Which one's? Lots of money and highly skilled? 😉

Once you do it, let us know the outcome mate.

Good luck.

Ian

I think you will find that is communicaid!!

There isn't a new version of firmware yet, its still 3.42.1 for generic units, there is obviously an orange variant too (not sure of the firmware # at the mo).

The best thing to do is call Club Nokia or Communicaid to find out if the new version is available yet, saves a wasted journey!!

😊

Hi,

I've read there is, version 4.07 but it isn't available every where as yet according to reading.

I'm going to give them a call tomorrow and see what they say.

Ian
