If i have a imap server someplace on the net.

What is the server database setting?

Or better question
What can i use remote sync with.
Any software out there i could download and install to give this a test?
You can use Remote Sync with a SyncML Server that sits on the network.
It can be operated by you & connected to your actual email system, but it can also be "standalone" and/or hosted by somebody else.
SyncML is also now part of the Open Mobile Alliance and known as OMA DS (OMA Data Synchronization).
SyncML Server products are listed somewhere on http://www.openmobilealliance.org
A SyncML service provider is http://www.mightyphone.com/
SyncML allows only calendar/contacts synchronization today. For email sync you need to rely on the email client & IMAP/POP3/SMTP.
