WAS IT WORTH THE WAIT?
well, ive already check out its full specifications, but the real question is, "Is it rily dat good?"
As a current 92i user & a very big fan of Communicators! ive learned fm experience that the 1st generations, rather 1st release of new units sch as the 9500 will always have flaws! then later on after spending good money for it ull find out dat der wud be an upgraded version of it out soon!!! a 9500i for instance!
wel i jst hope if i cnt bare to resist the mch awaited & tempting unit dat it wil level up to my expectations... its not wat i had exactly in mind... but its Savvy!😊 d 802.11b is cool! but totaly useless for quite sumtym hir in the Philippines! I was hoping thou dat theyd cme up w a Titanium Version or a tougher build! the design was pretty gud but i was expecting sumthing better. I had a design in mind but hey! wat d heck!😊 its hir & dats wat matters!😃
Wel, i jst wnt to hear wat u guys think!😊
I wonder if its stable? never seen a phne w dual OS before... P900 is great too & it wrks jst fyn, der wasnt a P800i was it? get my point? 😊 wel, i guess wel all finde out in due time... i do hope to hear from ppl more hu has already experieced using d 9500.
When the 7700 comes out, I will definitively go and play with it somewhere. If I get really wild and reckless, I might consider buying that one. 😃 But then again... it doesn't have the qwerty, so I'll probably remain faithful to the communicator series. Maybe I was hoping to see something 'new' in 9500, although I cannot say what it could have been. The features seem ok enough.
I still have a long time to wait until I can get my hands on it though 😞
to tell u the truth i see the 9500 as an upgrade to 9210
they shoulve made major changes
Very dissapointed about the release...Q4 only???!!!
Thats a shame.
If 9210i had GPRS id stick with it long time.
p.s. I'll play too with a 7700. But I cannot see myself in my office or in the street being a 'sidetalker". Yuk!!!

Wel, i agree... but a MAJOR Upgrade w dat 802.11b!😃 The RAM was expected... but dey cud have at least made it 128MB total Useable MEM w at least 64MB RAM! hope it cud run on Symbian OS v8.0 & support SDIO!!! imagine a 1GB storage on a SD CARD!!!😃😃😃 wnt be long before we can run DIABLO!😉
like i said, i was rather expecting more... i wonder wat processor it is using... a 400Mhz wud be nce!😃
The thing is, the 9500 is just one of a number of communicators Nokia are going to release, hopefully this year.
I digged back to my past posts & this is wat i got!
Wat i wanted for d next Communicator!!! d 9500!!!
faster processor (400Mhz!)
Bigger RAM (64MB) or at least swap file capability!
Not Robust but a 128MB internal storage!
GPRS, MMS, Bluetooth, 802.11a/b (OH yEAH!)
Dual Plasma colored MOnitor (Check!)
Vibra Alert, Screen Saver (Check!)
Thermometer, Barometer, altimeter, Sun-set, moon-phases-tides
for the outdoors! (hmmm...)
FM stereo radio tuner (Damn it!)
laser pionter for presentations (Hmm...)
Flash light for emergencies (on other units!!!)
SHOCK, DUST & WATER resistant! ( Too mch?)

Nah.... u serious???
o common....
Rily???😃😃😃
How so?
My head hurts after reading your posts...
But anyway, why do you want a 400MHz processor? The Communicator isn't running Windows Mobile you know... Besides, think about power consumption (battery life).

sori for gving u dat head ache!
can u blame me? i jst wnted more... & i jst simply want the communicator to be the very best the world ever has & ever will be!😉 400Mhz... wel, im sure ders gona be a whole new market for it... more softwares w more demanding tasks! myt as wel make it kip up in advance! d 92i is already a powerful Music & picture editing tool... it wud be rily nce if we can also do dat, plus more on d FLY!😃
Yup, Battery life is indeed an issue!
a higher capacity Lithium Battery might jst do the trick! say for instance uhmmm... a 2500MA or even better 3500MA!!!😃 but i thnk even on d standard batt it can stil have a considerable standby tym... cz wen its closed wel... like a PC its also in standby, thus saving batt life! we dnt leave our communicators on open d whole day do we? or do u? its bad wnuf dat its big, but leaving it open wide in ur pocket is jst WEIRD!!!😊😊😊

I agree . I was expecting more sci fi features and design like a gliding clam shell but the look is rather t610 like from colors and external look. Anyhow i hope software will be more future proof

I'm getting hints from a few places. Here's one from Nokia's 3GSM newsletter:
"Separately, Nokia and IBM announced plans at the 3GSM Congress to jointly deliver mobile-workforce solutions. The two companies will combine Nokia's Communicator devices (including the new Nokia 9500 Communicator, a Series 80 Developer Platform 2.0 device), Symbian OS, and IBM mobile software, including WebSphere Everyplace Access Client and Lotus Sametime Instant Messaging Client."
and from the developer HTML specification:
"The Nokia 9500 Communicator is the first phone to incorporate the Series 80 Developer Platform 2.0. In the future there will be other handsets that are Developer Platform 2.0 compliant and use the same base browser software as the Nokia 9500 Communicator with some handset specific exceptions. The tables below present first the base browser software characteristics in Series 80 Developer Platform 2.0 and secondly the possible exceptions in handsets compared to the base browser software."
So there you go. Wishful thinking, perhaps. CeBit might be interesting.

Are you guys serious? More communicators? Somehow the way they say "in the future" does not impress me much... 🙄
Hello,
This may sound a bit wierd, but one of my pals says that the 9500 is available in dubai eventhough its launch is scheduled sometime in september(roughly 6 mnths)if this is true can anyone confirm this bit of info.
thankyou
sudipt chatterjee
Having lived for a few years in Dubai I know a little of the landscape. I visited http://www.emiratescomputers.co.ae/ who are the distributer for Nokia in the UAE. I could find no mention of the 9500 even though there are chanced to preorder a couple of the other new phones. This is not concusive evidence, but I think it points strongly to the phone not being on sale in Dubai.
Good Lord! wel, im stil waitinG!😃
it is definatly not available in dubai😉

If ibm will join and 9500 will not sync with mac (oh nokia please please sync mac) then my next gadget will be ibm 😊 (ibm you know my mail for paying the advertising 😉 😃

The communicator as it was until now (or we wanted to be) used to be the best in a phone and the best in a pda. After each release (excepting may be 7650) nokia need to upgrade the release with eighter a i version or a improved one. Getting back to the topic. . . . Are we sure what we are waiting. Or, what we are waiting now, does it apply to next technology ? Everybody is waiting 1 mega pixels camera on phones. Or is the 9500 future prof technology ready ? Well, as one aas user said...The best is yet to come.... So we waited and waited but can this moment be also a wrong one for launching the commi ? I honestly hope that nokia does it this time proper. We will see it. And after all .the

This might be a bit off-topic, but I don't understand why you had wanted a 802.11a (5 GHz) adapter. In my experience 802.11a access points and wireless cards have been very unreliable and offered a very small range compared to 802.11b/g access points.
Instead 802.11g (2,4 GHz) might have been a good choice, although I'm not sure whether these mobile devices can really take advantage of higher bandwidths (about 17-23 Mbps w/o WEP) than what 802.11b (2,4 GHz) already offers (about 5,0-5,5 Mbps w/o WEP).
Edit:I fixed quotes.

Having read this very interesting thread about the 9500 being on sale in dubai. i would like to confirm to you all (being an Emirates Computers employee) that it is NOT available in Dubai.
I have however played around with a pre prototype 9500 and it does look good. The only things i didnt find very impressive with it were:
1. the front keys on the phone are covered with a cheap looking clear plastic cover and it doesnt look like it can be changed.
2.the software is pretty much identical to the 9210i except it has been given a more modern look with nicer icons.
3.i didnt play with it very long, but the qwerty keyboard inside the device has small keys which could make typing dificult...although i think people will adapt to this.
The unit i had did not have a functioning phone but the OS was working ok and as an example, i opened every application in there without the phone crashing.
another thing to note is that it wasnt much faster than the current 9210i which was a disappointment to me. i didnt test the bluetooth/wifi or the camera.
If you have any more questions, let me know and i will try to answer them.

Communicators are the topline of nokia phones, thats
it there is no number greater than the 9 series, which is the case, if you put 10, then it would come back to the 1 (1st) series.
Nokia has rated its series from, number wise, the
greaters the number increase the greater the phone
becomes.
You can have an idea for this.
They are the most expensive than any nokia phone, no matter which ever OS they have even old ones.
For example, 1,2 series is real crap when you compare with the 3 series and the 3 series is crappy, if you compare with 6, 7, 8 series, and then nothing can beat the 9 series.
thats the way it is!
Also nokia has introduced phones of evermodel, except of the 4 series, I wonder why not? is it an unlucky number for finnish people?? or something heh.. and also the 5 series doesnt have very much models, only two or three.
just my three....erm i mean... two cents
kthx!
