UK People - can anyone recommend a compatible PC Infra red device for my 7650 and any web-sites that sell them.
Much obliged to you all.
UK People - can anyone recommend a compatible Infra red....
i got a sigmatel USB irda kit from www.maplin.co.uk, think it cost around 25 and came with free next day delivery.
If you are willing to "risk it" then there are a number of ppl selling USB bluetooth on Ebay. A word of advice, don't buy from ppl located in the UK cos they are very expensive. I am buying mine from a guy in Germany with 100+ positive feedback. It will cost me just under 32 include P&P. If you buy from UK sellers then expect to pay at least 40. If you can wait 3-4 weeks then buy it from dabs.com for 39 inc P&P.
Why have cotton when you can have silk... as they say on the advert!

I'm using an MA-600 serial port IR receiver that I've had for quite a while and has worked with everything since my 6150e. It can be bought online from Scan at www.scan.co.uk and other places.
Okay I don;t have the 7650, but I've never had any trouble with the serial IrDA from Greenwich Instruments (called the GIrBill). Available on Expansys as a USB option.
The Girbil is excellent - and tiny too!
Ahh... so cute!
[Time to up the dosage perhaps]
If you're buying an add-on from scratch (as opposed to using IR because that's what's already there on your PC) then why on earth are you going backwards to IR and not forwards to Bluetooth ? You can get cheap 'own-brand' Bluetooth USB adaptors from Dabs for not much more than an IR dongle, or go up and spend 100 for a TDK one. I think one should make best use of the technology that's there, or (as with WAP) genuinely useful innovations are left sidelined and underdeveloped just because people are too lazy to learn to use them and therefore they're labelled as 'flops'... as for Bluetooth, I'm in the living room on my wife's laptop and just updated the calendar on my 7650 while it's sitting recharging in the kitchen. Think forward or there's no reason why the manufacturers should.
I use a Belkin USB one which is very good quality and the price was reasonable at just over 30 UK Pounds. I got this for my 7110 which my daughter now uses since i got the 7650.
I would agree with the above though and get a Bluetooth adapter if you are going from scratch. I have ordered a small keyring USB one from ebuyer.com to test for 35 UK Pounds. Its is made by MSI. It has not arrived yet so i can not comment on its performance yet.

Yeah I have this one and also a Mitsumi one.
Both work great even with WinXP, the software on both is a little buggy, but with the MSI I can connect for a good syncing in PC Suite. Havent figured it out on the Mitsumi software.
The Mitsumi one (Model # WIF-0402C) is also compatible with Apple Mac Bluetooth Update for Os X too for those interested, and i got mine on Ebay.

Where can we buy one from? (the USB Bluetooth)
THnaks
MSI USB bluetooth key.

What about this product: MSI PC2PC-Bluetooth (http://www.msi.com.tw/html/e_service/techexpress/tech_column/pc2pc_bt/page1.htm)
This isnt needed as well as the USB key is it? (I assume it is just for desktop MSI motherboard connectivity instead of the key?)
THanks
Sorry I was talking about product MS-6968
You assume right, the key works independantly. whereas the other kit is a card for MSI boards.

I'v gone and ordered me one of those MSI bad boys. The retailer seems dodgey though - shocking website and no-one picks up their phone... I guess we will have to wait to see if it really is next day delivery...

Ebuyer.com was where i ordered mine from. It arrived today and i had it running pretty quickly. I have only tried it on my Win 98 laptop so far and will try it later on one of the 2K machines and an XP one.
