There are currently three threads on AvantGo and the 6600 ("Installing and running AvantGo", 6600 and AvantGo" and the foremost "List of applications..."😉. Instead of posting an aswer in all of them, I've taken the liberty to open a new one -generic. Hope it serves all who asked before. Excuse me all of you for whom this is redundant.
AvantGo DOES run on 6600.
Only thing you need is patience and observation of my.avantgo page (somethat odd) instructions carefully. Do not touch -nor dowload the AvantGo .sis file- till you are prompted to do so.
First, get an account (register) on the my.avantgo page; its easy and free.
Second, follow steps (on your my.avantgo page ) to subscribe to as many channels (within the specifyed limits) as you wish.
Third: when you are prompted to download the .sis file, do so on your computer and then send it to your 6600; after installation and opening, you will need to "teach" the AvantGo webpage (my.avantgo) who will be the user: it's you IMEI. Once you did this linking, you may sync the AvantGo on your 6600 (Left softkey > File > Modem sync, and it'll ask to connect to your GPRS suscription).
If all went well, it'll take about two minutes to "learn" from the server which pages you chose to download, effectively download them, update your 6600 and show the chosen pages. All done.
You may change channels on your device or on your my.avantgo page (remember your user and pwd).

(It took me six tries and four installs-uninstalls to make it work. NOT ALL of the .sis files around there work well. That from AvantGo page does).

Worked for me first time, whats so hard about it?
Not sure. I've tried dozens of times before without any joy but it's synching now as I'm typing. It's taking for ever but that's what you get doing the synch on dial-up. 😉

....one thing though. I'd like to be able to do the synch through my PC (like I used to do with my Palm Pilot). Any ideas on how to do this?

Well, having installed & synchronized Avantgo OK, it won't run. I've installed the app on the memory card - do you think it's run better on the phone memory?

I too installed on the mmc. what i find odd is that i can sync all but i cannot seemed to be connected to the main page otherwise. I cannot change any channels cos even tho I can see submit key, when I "press" nothing happens. Odd. I don't have such problem with 7650 despite using my acct for my palm.

Do you require GPRS to access Avantgo or can you do it entirely through an IR connection to your desktop PC (that has an internet connection)?
Can't seem to get an answer to this anywhere! I don't have GPRS but a big benefit of Avantgo is being able to sync without incurring GPRS costs - you could do this with Palm devices.
Any answers out there!?

I'm happy to be corrected on this one but I don't believe you can use a PC internet connection to hook up your 6600 (via infrared) to the Avantgo server. I managed to connect via dial-up once but it fell over after an hour or so.
We recently got GPRS at work which did improve the stability and synch times but the whole thing is still as flakey as hell (I've done 16 re-installs to date 😉 )

i have not been able to sync Avantgo even for the first time using a GPRS connection on my Nokia 6600. so i decided to uninstall the app from the MMC where i had installed it in the first place. having gone thru Manager and selecting Avantgo, i selected REMOVE from the options dropdown (or dropup!), but kept getting the SYSTEM ERROR ! Any thoughts as to why this keeps happening? any suggestions to solve the problem would be higly appreciated. cheers.
When I sync with the server it reloads channels I no longer subscribe to and wont load up the ones I do.
Any suggestions?

Just kill the the app avantgo using taskmanager and then remove it

it also installs a pref file mal(something or other) that you may have to find (I just uploaded it to my machine to check it was ag prefs then deleted it). I can't add any channels because unlike these concise instructions I added ag mobile to my existing ag account. I'm going to try to do a new account.
