My N-Gage won't start

18 replies · 5,670 views · Started 09 March 2004

My N-gage encountered a system error when I tried to reply to an SMS. After lots of effort I was able to log in again. I then tried to do a back-up operation but then it finally decided to crash completely. The first two times I tried to restart the device it came some text after the NOKIA logo:
System Error (which meant it had switched language from German to English as well) also some text behind this with something that looked like close application or something similar. There was also a possibility to press OK. So I did... Now it doesn't start at all. Only the NOKIA logo is shown and then the device shuts down. I've tried to enter the restart code *#7370# in blind but there is no response what so ever.

Does anyone know if there is a hidden reset button somewhere or if it is possible to press a combination of different keys at start-up to reset the device? I feel a bit reluctant to hand my phone in at a service center. The last time I did that, it took them three months to return a new mobile phone. The time before that it also took a few months and they haven't reset the phone anyway. (This was an Ericsson, maybe Nokia is better?)

Hi,
I had the same problem.I tried to hard format my phone (press YES, 3 , * ande then open your phone) for about a dozen times with my mmc and without the sim, it didnt work but i got to open it(!) and then i used the *#7370# command to format it and now everything is ok 😉

Your best bets to send it to the nokia centre to be flashed.
but before u send it, check to make sure its not a problem with the battery cus mine wudnt start due to a dud battery a while ago.

Same happened to my company's developement N-Gage 😡 I was so shocked that one day the thing couldn't turn on. Had to flash the firmware 😞

hi my phone is doing the same thing, although i didnt get an error message, i turned it off last night and thismorning it wont switch back on, the screen lights up and i get the nokia logo, but then it goes off, and resets, do i really have to get it flashed, or is there any way what so ever i can fix it myself?

thanks
Peter Graham

oh, could anyone tell me how mch it costs to get my N0Gage flashed?

How long have you had your phone? If its within the first year of purchase, a flash is free when sent to a nokia service centre.

yea im from the UK, i appreciate your help mate, if i sound snappy its just cos, when you pay alot for a phone its gutting when something goes wrong 😞

If your phones on contract you could always upgrade to a newer phone rather than spending money on your current one.

lol, its on pay n go 😞 if i get it flashed will that fix it?

Yea shud do if thats the only problem, first make sure though that its definitely not due to your charger or battery. Id be well gutted if i spent 30 to find out it was infact my battery 😃

A flash will also update the phone to the latest software which is always a help in the future.

Thanks Alot Mate, im off now, but thanks for your help, ill take it to a service point tomorrow, c u later

The N-Gage was pre-announced (shown first time in public) in November 2002 at the Nokia Mobile Internet Conference. That's about 16 months (or 1 year and 4 months) ago.

It was really launched at the E3 conference in May 2003. That's about 10 months ago.

It started shipping early October 2003. That's close to 6 months ago.

4 or 6 months... but it is clear that there is no human being (except some nokia staff and some special and gifted people) that owns a n-gage for one year or more. 😊
