Under dial up networking you need to add a new connection with the modem you said you added. Dial *99# and there you are. Under internet tools internet settings, connection settings make this connection you made your default and ready you are. P.S your network operator can help you made those settings 😊

i tried what you said but it says something about the control protocol PPP getting cut ... the error number is 734 PLZ help me .. im goin vacations soon and need internet while im there...

I wrote the following line in Control Panel>Phone and Modem Options>Modems>Properties>Advanced>Extra init commands:

+cgdcont=1,,"ufone.pcinternet"

where ufone.pcinternet is my service provider's access point (AP). Change this to your service provider's setting.

I have my WAP programmed into the modem as you suggest in your post. I have my phone connected and paired to my laptop successfully. When I try to connect using my connection shortcut I can see the port connecting but get a "no dialtone" message. I have *99# entered as the provider number. Any suggestions?

How can I connect my notebook to internet using the GPRS of my nokia 7610 via bluetooth ? I tried to do but what I only got was an error message (number 692).

I am hoping someone can help me get this working. I have successfully paired my Nokia 3650 with my laptop running Windows XP SP2. I have also setup a dialup connection selecting the Nokia 3650 Bluetooth Modem which was one of the choices available with Port 5 selected. When I run the dialup using the *99# for the number my laptop opens the port and then shows that it is dialing *99#. It then displays a failure message that says "Connecting through.... Error 692.
There was a hardware failure in the modem (or other connecting device)." I tried to use this setup while escaping from Hurricane Jeane here in Florida but was unsuccessful. It sure would be useful to me in these emergency situations to keep in touch with friends and family while evacuating at some distant point from my home setup. Thanks for any help or advice. I think I must be close to getting it to work.

If you ever do get it to work can you please let me know because i have the same error...
I have heard in another forum that you have to turn the modem off then back on again ( in device manager) that may help.
Problem is i guess that wee need to use the modem of the 3650 but the 3650 only offers a IR connection for the internal modem
that sucks
good luck

Then that is the problem. I did not know that the 3650 only offered an IR connection to its internal mdem. Is there an upgrade that will enable Bluetooth for the 3650 internal modem?

That is just what i m lookinf for ( i just made a new post with that question).
Let me know if you find it.
Their must be a soft or something

Ok, I found the answer. I am using Windows XP SP2. After you have successfully paired the phone and the Nokia 3650 setup a dialup connection. Do not, I repeat, DO NOT use the Nokia Bluetooth Modem software. I was only successful after removing it from my computer. When you setup the dialup connection use the "Modem - Standard Modem over Bluetooth Link" under the "connect using" screen. Of course the dialup number is *99#. After removing the Nokia software I was shocked after clicking connect on my new dialup connection to see it happily connecting to the internet. With my unlimited internet with my T-Mobile account this will be great on the road. Post if you have any more questions.

Now my problem is how to setup my Thunderbird email client so that I can send email using this connection. I can retrieve email but can only send to my own address for some reason. Must be a setting somewhere that will enable this. I use T-Mobile as my wireless provider.

Found the settings on the T-Mo site. The connection now seems to work every time. Can't wait to test it on the road. This is a big break through for me.

does this same setup work with infrared??
actually my hard disk got erased recently, so I can't use MRouter or PC Suite.
I send files to my 3650 via the pop-up that comes up "Send files to nearby computer Nokia 3650" [I think this is built-in program in XP that allows me to do this]. But whenever I try connecting via infrared, I get something like Install drivers for Standard Modem via IR link. I presume this standard modem will connect the modem in the phone to the computer. I also presume the dial up no. is *99# without an user name and password. Where can I get the drivers for the standard modem via IR link? do I let XP do the job by letting it install the drivers on its own?? And what do I do after that? do i go to Menu->Connectivity->Modem->Via Infrared on the phone?? And do i have to configure IE to accept this as an internet connection????
BTW I have Windows XP Professional, with Service Pack 2, if it helps.
Rohit

I never got the IR link to work and from what I read it is not that good due to the extreme limitation in speed. My T-Mo GPRS connection actually seems to be faster than the typical dialup. If you are using a Nokia 3650 I highly reocmmend that you pair the phone using Bluetooth. Perhaps someone else can answer your question regarding the IR connection.

yyyyyyyyyyyeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah !!!!!!!!!!
It works !!!!!!!!! ok let s put it this way..... i tried and tried again with IE6 and never got it to work. Yesterday night i installed mozilla firefox... and today while i was using my cable connection i thought hey what the hell let s try one last time with the grps (and this time firefox). and guess what it works !! Great. Glad you got it to work. I have not tried IE with it but there is no reason it should not work. By the way, I put a shortcut to the BT dialup on my desk top and just right click it to select connect since I often switch from WIFI, ethernet, dialup, or GPRS. I don't try to let it connect automatically. I did a speed test last night and I got this:

2004-10-02 22:10:43 EST: *31 / 10*
Your *download* speed : 32435 bps*, or 31 kbps*.
A 3.9 KB/sec transfer rate.
Your *upload* speed : 10863 bps*, or 10 kbps*.

Some how it seemed faster than that but those are the numbers. Still, not bad to be able to get that without hunting down a phone line or a hot spot. Certainly useable for me.

By the way, I use Firfox and Thunderbird almost exclusively now. There is even a little extension for Firefox that shows a "view in IE" selection for those rare pages where you need IE. The combination of FF and TB is sweet. 😊

Somewhere in the thread I may have mentioned that I have unlimited internet with my TMO account. I guess there billing program did not know that because I just got a $500 US bill for last month. Most of it showed as internet calls. I called TMO and they said they are researching it. I hope they can work it out or I will surely have to drop this method of connecting on the road even though I just got it working well.

waouw it suck!!! very sorry about that... i m under prepaid card..so that kind of thing souldn t happen to me.. at least i hope so.. i ll let you know if they charged me more...

Yeah, they straightened it out. It was an error in billing. They also assured me they have taken steps to insure that it will not happen again. I give them credit, they worked to get this issue fixed. Took them a couple of days but they got back with me on it.

Hey long time no news... i m glad they could finally work somthing out for ya. Glad you don t have to pay that huge bill. Well guess that now you are back on the grps 😉
enjoy bro

Thanks. Have not been on the road since last month to test it out in a different location. TMO adjusted all of my internet calls and gave me a credit of $200+. The other calls were legit due to our evacuating from the hurricanes. Will keep you posted on how well this works out but I was more than pleased with the speed while testing here at home.

im able to connect to the internet using my N6600 but the problem is i cannot surf any site ... if i open www.yahoo.com using I.E 6 ... it try to reach yahoo but no page available to view ... is there anything wrong ... can any ONE help me on this.... :icon4:

If you are using Windows XP as your OS on the computer you have to also setup a dialup connection to your service provider, in my case, T-Mobile. The dialup connection in my case is setup to use "Standard modem over Bluetooth Link" and the phone number *99#. After you connect with this dialup connection all of your internet apps should work normally.

ok i have done with that ... when i double click the blinking icon of my internet connection the send data are blinking shows that my computer try to reach the host but there are no sign of receiving data from the internet. It like there are no reply from the host.... is that anything that i miss to do.

please someone

Had to switch to the $19.95 unlimited internet plan to resolve the billing problems. I kept getting these crazy bills. I had to keep calling them and then they would waive the charges. Somehow, the laptop connections were not counting as T-Zones calls so we resolved it, hopefully, with the unlimited internet plan. They have been very good attitude wise about trying to help me but we have had some difficulties getting it all worked out. I hope it is resolved now.
