faster way to transfer themes to phone

13 replies · 10,861 views · Started 11 March 2004

i'm currently using bluetooth to transfer themes to my phone, the themes will come into the phone as messages and will be stored into the inbox. to install the theme, one would have to manually open all the messages and install them one by one.

This could be fun when dealing with just a few themes, but imagine doing that with 40 themes. I have tried using a memory card reader to install the themes but it doesnt seem to work.

Help

i already tried that, i stored the themes into the E:/System/Intalled folder together with the rest of the themes but when i boot the phone, the new themes were not visible.

But when i run FExplorer i can still see the themes in the folder, i tried opening them but an error msg, "file format not known", was returned.

Place the files in the "others" folder (or any really) then use the built in file manager to look at the files. Open any file and installer should kick in. Hence the theme is being installed!

I think you do not understaqnd that the themes have to be installed before you can view theme.

Your question should be can you put installed themes direct on to you phone. I believe this is a big NO.

Wht i do is just install the themes once and the put the mmc in cardreader and copy sikns folder and when i format the mmc and transfer the skin folder again just like we all do in case of messages.

Help

:hello: Forgive me for stating the obvious  but I use infra-red and PCSuite.
I d/l the themes to My Documents and leave them zipped. Start the IR connection and double click the zipped theme, this invokes winzip so I can see the .sis file in the winzip window, I then double click this and the PCSuite installer is then invoked, follow onscreen prompts and repeat for all other themes, all installed and ready to go. This works for all other 6600 software as well. So simple. I tried bluetooth but got the same results that you describe, and a pain in the butt :reddy:

I use infra- red and pc suite aswell and it works great everytime just as MickH1 said .If i were to upgrade my infra-red dongle to a bluetooth one do you think i will run into problems ?

thanks

I use Bt with no problems, and its quicker than the method posted above i think.

I just right click the file and 'Send to' /bluetooth/my phone and its there!
Dont need Pc suite at all for this.

😊

I dont ever send multiple files,i was just answering gadgets question about speed and reliability. 😊

Hi Gadget.

If you find infra-red so good why change? My father uses bluetooth with his 7650 (which incidentally used to be mine) and he`s got about five connections in his Dial Up Networking folder, and they play havoc with the net etc. Bluetooth is good for mobile to mobile, but I don`t see much of a speed increase over IR.

Thanks Vicky,
That's a really good way to manage lots of themes. :icon14:
