I stumbled my way on to this site via another site, and decided to make a post about my decision.
I'm a T-mobile customer, and my contract just ended. Looking to get a new phone, and the N-gage is at the top of my list. Now I'm a HUGE gamer, and the obvious design flaws deterred me at first. But, now with a pretty good price point, and some really nice features (bluetooth, FM, MP3, Symbian OS), I'm starting to change my opinion.
So I guess I'm trying to see what you guys think. I'm looking for a phone loaded with features that is reasonably priced. The N-gage seems to fit that best, but there may be something else I'm missing...or something I don't know that would deter me.
Any info you guys have would be outstanding, and thanks in advance.

IMO the ngage is the best phone available in england at the moment. Like you said bluetooth, fm radio, mp3 player, games console, video player (watch full films etc.), bluetooth remote, full compatability with just about all series 60 applications.
But the obvious flaw with it is the fact that it has no camera.
well, camera is not a big deal as I NEVER use my Motorola t720i camera. If it were built in I MIGHT use it as a novelty, but nothing more really. That's why I have a camera 😉
But the FM radio is HUGE. I know it sounds dumb, but that's one of my main reasons for wanting it. I don't have a portable FM radio 😛
Also, you mentioned video. I scoured this forum for some video stuff, and saw a couple of things....but is it really possible to get some decent video on the N-gage.
If so:
1. how much does software for that stuff run
2. what length (time) videos can you get on...say...a 128 meg card.
By the way, thanks for your thoughts.
depends on compression. If you did a really good one, you could find that the file is around 200mb (as i found when i converted road trip) however when i did it a different way it was around 30 mb and still perfectly watchable, especially when used with smart movie, or mobiclip. you could get about 4/5 on 1 128 mb card depending on length and the compression. The best thing about the ngage though is multiplayer gaming especially on splinter cell (co-op) red faction, fifa 2004 and moto gp. fm radios good, especially that you can record off it onto your memory card. i like the mp3 player as well, its got prety good soun quality.. I would advise buying a 256 mb card from a site like expansys though if you are serious about films and mp3s.
First off...thanks.
Secondly, are those 256 mb cards reliable? I have read a lot about problems with anything over 128...do the expansys solve that problem?
And yeah, I wish multi-player was a factor for me, but unfortunately NONE of my friends have an N-Gage. It's not a very popular machine in Atlanta....or America for that matter.
But yeah, films would just be ultra-cool for me to have on my phone. I could definitely get into that.
How do you do that though....do you somehow "rip" the DVD you have and save it down?
Theres a thread i created a while back that should give you all the info rquired. Any problems either leave on message on the thread concerning it or PM me.
A quick search through the forum wil bring up the threads 😃
All apologies...I actually checked out a lot of the FAQ, which for some reason blended into the background of my mind before 🙄
Anyway, it explained a LOT, so thanks. Very well written and compiled.
Now I just need someone to make the freakin decision for me 😛
Actually, and I didn't see this in my searches....but does anyone have a good deal for this phone in America? For some reason, T-mobile doesn't even have it listed on their site that I can find 😕
Quite some time ago electorinc boutique had a special online offer to consumers in the US, u may still find the deal is still valid.
200 bucks for the system with 3 free games.
Gamestop is running the same, but also with a free "accessory."
Not bad...not bad at all.
If you decide not to go with T-mobile as you Service provider check out ATT. I hate ATT but they are getting set up to be an EDGE network and will be offering the 6620 from Nokia, it's very close to the N-Gage without the games. It's designed more for the business person. If you decide to stick with T-mobile check out the siemens SX-1. I have T-mobile and an N-Gage and I love it. The 6620 and the SX-1 are a bit more expensive then the N-gage but they offer many of the same abilities minus the games. If you really like the N-gage I suggest that you stick to T-mobile and pick one up. I switch between my T720 and N-gage constantly. T-mobile also offers a mobile an unlimited internet plan for the N-gage for only ten bucks more to your current plan. My bills are usually under $60 a month. It's something that ATT and cingular users can't say cause they pay for mobile internet by MB. I suggest you get one cause you sound kinda like I did before I bought mine. Word of advice you can pick up a 128MMC from Ebuyer.com for about 40 bucks. I say you get one and join the proud few. Yes, I guess I am a fanboy now. ha ha ha
Well, that was a great "sale." I think I actually am "sold" on the N-gage. Kind of excited about it, as I'm really tired of my T720.
And the 10 dollars for unlimited is an amazingly good deal to me. Of course, it would be nice if t-mobile even LISTED the thing on there site, or the 10 dollar thing....but I digress.
Thanks again guys, and I guess I'll be seeing you soon with my shiny new phone in hand 😃
