Is there any backup and restore software for the p900 that runs on a mac osX?

Unfortunately not, unless you just mean contacts and calenders, for which you can use iSync.
What you can do is use Virtual PC running Win 98se or above to install and run the SE software. It will even update firmware via the web, though this does take some time.
