The PCSuite. Opensource anybody ?

Hey, does anyone have Zonealarm or something installed when trying the Nokia PC Suite.

Apparently the software runs in some 4 - 6 different threads etc.. Does it really need to be so complicated ?

Also I already have some 2 system apps running to get the serial Irda adaptor working..

The performance drain on my system discourages me greatly to use these tools.. There a quite a few apps I want to try out, but the whole thought of running PC suite puts me off.

Is there any opensource alternative or freeware tool that does all of this in a lightweight manner ? 😉

I do have zonealarm and my pc suite only needs 1 thread (I don't have a 7650 but do have a 9210)
But what I don't get is why you bring zonealarm in the equation 😊 I mean pc suite doesn't access the internet does it? (maybe zonealarm alo covers irda, don't know about that)

Nokia always refused to make something for Linux. Their main reason is that their communication protocols are proprietary, and they want to keep them secret. The only opensource project for Nokia is gNokii, but it only covers the dct3 generation of phones.

what do you want to sync?

contacts and calendar?

in that case you need to find a syncml-server that handles that kind of stuff (i dont know if there is any open-source ones because i recently worked alot with syncml and i had no open-source software to look at, but there are alot of software beeing worked on...)

Well what I meant by many threads is that the PC Suite consists of many smaller apps that run together and communicate using some kind of interprocess comms or as local client server arch. Just seems too complicated for something simple.

What I actually want to do is probably just backup contacts once in a while and mainly download applications!!!

And by the way I would like to do this by irda, I dont have WAP or GPRS or anything supported on my network.

Possan, does a syncml server imply a gprs connection? I want to send and get files from my 7650, sync contacts and calendar with evolution, all without having to pay for a gprs transfer, just using irda or bluetooth... And without having to reboot my machine into windows just to do that.

There is an opensource software now...
