When the screen saver of the time and date activates sometimes it has symbol of a phone with a 1 next to it, what does that mean

i thought it was that but i had the phone in front of me all the time and it didnt ring at all.

Go to Missed Calls and check it. Perhaps you have a missed call but you didn�t see it... If this is true, when you have seen the missed call, then the phone symbol will disappear.

a lil letter system will appear when you recieve a sms or mms or email too 😊

Yup, that's a missed call or a sms/mms you got. Just watch the symbols. I was confused too as i first saw it 😊
