i have to say yes since it does all the essential requirments of a laptop😊
9500 replace laptop?
It can replace a laptop in some aspects like connectivity but not all.I can probably use it to SSH to a remote server i'm working on and see what's going on.I'll probably be able to touch-type on the 9500 and use it for some Coding on the run,but certainly not with the same speed as on a full featured laptop QWERTY keyboard. Can i play Quake 3 Aliance or ProMode on it? 😉
The 9500 will be excelent for remote administration, web browsing, multimedia and part time gaming i guess but it can't fully replace a laptop but since i rarely use a laptop for gaming it will it just fine.Maybe the next one 😉
I voted yes, but I only mean for everyday use. I need a laptop sometimes to give power point presentations and although I know that theoretically it might be possible with a communicator, I don't trust it enough for big auditorium lectures and there isn't enough room for all the files. But for everyday use, to do notes on the run and check emails and surf the net etc. it doubles as a laptop perfectly.
LAuRA,the 9500 has a full featured MS Office compatible PowerPoint editor/viewer.The space won't be a problem with a phone storage of 80MB and a 1GHB MMC 😉
Good to know. But I wasn't talking about just looking at or editing the presentations, I was talking about showing them. They sell a separate device for 9210 that you can use to connect to the data projector (using IR) but I doubt it's very reliable. Maybe in the future (if not now, I'm not sure) there will be data projectors that use bluetooth so 9500 could connect directly to them. 😊
The projector module is called IRMA,i've seen it in action and its excelent.I certainly hope Nokia produces alternative that will work on the 9500.

It can only replace a laptop when it has functions as a laptop, moreover
maybe more than a laptop.
supponsingly, this may comprise of:
mouse connectivity
portable/internal cd drive, maybe minidisc as the 9200 is small than a laptop
internal hard drive in gigabytes atleast
maybe some floppy drive on zip/pen drive sort of stuff
printer connectivity
scanner connectivity
better internal sound system
ethernet support, card for LAN
full duplex modem for dialups
and some like the rest....

The rocker key.

Probably up to 1GB with MMC.
printer connectivity
scanner connectivity
BT printing.
better internal sound system
Have you tested the internal sound system?
ethernet support, card for LAN
full duplex modem for dialups
WLAN and CSD.

I don't need all that.
I have a laptop because i want to be mobile and have some necessities with me,not a whole PC.
That last laptop i used was a cute small thing from the Fujitsu P2000 Series. It has a 10 inch screen.
I have to say yes providing that its backwards compatable.
i used a 9210 with a Irma module with very reliable results, this was presenting ppt lectures up to 4hrs long. i have had to resort back to my laptop when the 9210 was replaced with a p800, i can't wait for the 9500, 4Q is too far away hurry up nokia and release this phone..

MMC is still and MMC. It gets errors sometimes even crashes. An internal hddisk sort of memory is more preferrable than larger MMC's. Mine does sometimes if I don't reboot the darn thing for 2 weeks maybe more, doesnt read it at all. Then I have to plug it in again or restart it.
Referring to the sound system I was mentioning the speakers. They should give a higher volume without blasting the voice when you turn them on load. Supponsingly for ringtones or polyphonic ringtones its okay, but for MP3 and full audio files I guess not.
MiniDisc drive as to easily copy and retrieve data, rather than connecting it with a cable and having difficulties with ports and drivers all the time even IrDA. If it not a minidisc then some sort of floppy disc or disk drive.
This post was only for a comparison, can the 9200 be equal to a laptop and better, from which I posted some suggestions, no it cannot be equal as it is not very user friendly as according to a laptop and lacks the certain listed funtions which I mentioned, and some I forgot errr.

My MMC works just fine.

I just use headphones.

You can easily copy data with a MMC card reader or Bluetooth or USB.

I never said that the 9500 can fully replace a laptop,i even voted no here but the 9500 can replace a laptop in quite a few aspects so some people, like me will use the the 9500 instead of a bulky laptop.
Wirelessly posted (Nokia6600/1.0 (3.42.1) SymbianOS/7.0s Series60/2.0 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.0)
The 9500 can replace a laptop especially when sending and receiving mails, writing fast desktop notes and recording some audio like conversations or new songs, doing some word or excell documents when mobile or in bed 😊 , checking info's stored in documents, play a fast game when you need to kill some time or chat with friends when out of office using gprs. Well not forget the phone calls. Show me a laptop that can do all that in just 20 seconds after getting it out from pocket 😊 well my conclusion is that 4 sure 9500 cannot do all the things a laptop does but since does all basic needed stuff i think is much convenient 4 all of its users. Laptop cannot do it all day everywhere. 😊
My 9210 replaced my laptop, so though I still have a laptop it's main use is playing Warcraft 3, web browsing and playing music.
A 9500 will replace my 9210.
My laptop is invaluable to me, i cant see myself moving backwards with such an inadequate device like the 9500 in comparison. I mean...how is 1gb better that 80gb? :?
i'd rather use a sub-notebook with a pcmcia phone module, if that was the case.
the only advantage i see of the 9500 over a laptop is the battery life.
Before I had a laptop I used my 9210 as a laptop, in ways it was even better as a laptop.
It's much easier to carry around and to create documents anywhere you are.
The only thing it can't do: graphic editing (anyone willing to port Gimp? 😃 ) and serious games.
I would have said movies but if you would combine 9500 with a software like smartmovie it will rock!
Gimp on the Commi, now that would be cool!
