Help! getting Opera working on 6600

5 replies · 2,523 views · Started 30 March 2004

Got my 6600 the other day. On the Meteor network in Ireland. Sent my MMS/GPRS settings from the Nokia website to my phone. 2 access points METEOR WAP OVER GPRS, and METEOR MMS OVER GPRS. Both working fine.

Tried the Opera browser last night and it keeps telling me it cannot connect to the remote server. Checked the help files, and the support on Nokias website.

Found this
"When you open a Web page with Opera, a connection dialog will pop up if you are not connected to the Internet. You will need to use GPRS connection and not WAP connection like the xhtml browser uses."

Reading down further they say to setup a new connection with default settings, and then type in the access point name (presumably meteor wap over gprs). I wonder if this will work, as the default settings dont have this wap.meteor.ie as the default homepage.

Any ideas ?

thx

1. Must have an ISP
2. configure your access point (the GPRS via internet) so that it is the same as for your pc access with login name and password
3. once configured start opera and select internet GPRS and not WAP GPRS and you are thru

For real web using Opera you need to have a WEB connection not WAP or MMS.

You need to the APN, username & password for a GPRS Web connection. You can get this from your network.

Then just create a new connection and specify it in Opera's settings.

I use real web with Opera but I do it via wap as I get it for free on my old Genie contract. It might be a little slower than gprs (which they won't let me have anyway cos they want me off the contract) but cos it's free, it doesn't matter..

apparently the access via WAP is dependant on the phone company cos it can decide whether it allows you to get to the internet or only the WAP sites.
