Few questions about the 6600...

Well I have an SPV E200 at the moment, but being who I am, I'm bored of it already, so decided to sell for a 6600.. I just want to know if it's worth it....

1. I'm able to use msn messenger and proper internet via bluetooth, using my home internet connection. Is this possible?

2. How long can you record video for? This is important, and has anyone got any example videos?

3. How good is the camera quality? Anyone got some examples?

4. How much do they cost to get unlocked, if mine comes locked?

5. Does it come with a media player pre-installed, or is one available?

6. What size MMC card can I get for it? I'm used to 512mb on my E200, but would probably settle for 256mb. Also, where's the cheapest deal on them?

7. What comes in the box? What would I need to buy extra? I would need handsfree (or a converter for my headphones), and some way of syncing with the pc and transferring data. My bluetooth dongle would be ok yeah?

8. What is the range of the 6600 bluetooth wise? My E200 does 10 metres.

9. Is there a decent review of it somewhere?

10. Is there a decent converter program to play real video format videos on the phone? Also, is there a way to play avis or mpegs?

11. Anything I should look out for when buying? What problems do they have a lot?

Cheers! I think that's about it! 😃

As far as I'm aware it is. Although I haven't done it.

Unlimited

3. How good is the camera quality? Anyone got some examples?
Ok, no more though.

4. How much do they cost to get unlocked, if mine comes locked?
Do it yourself. Free.

5. Does it come with a media player pre-installed, or is one available?
Yes and others are available.

6. What size MMC card can I get for it? I'm used to 512mb on my E200, but would probably settle for 256mb. Also, where's the cheapest deal on them?
Any. Go to eBay. I did.

Phone, battery, charger, 32MB card in the box. Dongle should be ok.

8. What is the range of the 6600 bluetooth wise? My E200 does 10 metres.
Dunno, never tried it.

9. Is there a decent review of it somewhere?
Goto Yahoo, type 'Nokia 6600 review' or read the countless ones on here.

10. Is there a decent converter program to play real video format videos on the phone? Also, is there a way to play avis or mpegs?
Yes and yes.

11. Anything I should look out for when buying? What problems do they have a lot?
Nothing major. Couple of really small niggles but no worries.

Cheers! I think that's about it! 😃

Check for the missing pixels on display. Is a common issue. Use a black screen to see them. And the display gets scratched very easy. 😞

oops forgot about that one. seen as i've had three of em you'd think i'd remember that one! should be sorted now though. the main culprets were the early orange ones.

It all sound pretty good, but I've seen that it doesnt play MP3s properly, and cant use pass-through internet connection via bluetooth? Is this correct? If so, I'm wasting my time with the 6600. I can live without the internet and msn via bluetooth, but not without MP3s. Is the crap quality the same for videos on the 6600 aswell? MP3s and Videos are my main use of the phone. Can someone clear this up for me please? :?

Mp3's on the 6600 will be mono,get a Stereo device.(N-Gage,SX1,7610,Sendo X).Movie playback with SmartMovie(dvix,xvid)player is awesome.

I could probably live with mono, just about... Can you just put MP3s on, or do they need to be converted? I read a thread about this with no definite answer. I cant be bothered to keep converting Mp3s all the time...

Also, I've seen no definite answer for video recording. My friend has a 32mb card (empty) in his phone, but can still only do 9 second video recording.. True?

Sorry. It doesn't natively support mp3s.
However you can of course install an mp3 player.

About recording: True :< Very true :< And still no software for unlimited video recording.

There si software for unlimited video recording (memory dependant) - not sure if it has sound too - I have seen it in w*&%z sites.

100% sure! Unfortunately 😞

Ya... the saddest thingy about the 6600 is the mono external speakers... It really makes you wonder what those folks at Nokia were thinking when they designed this great phone.... 😡

Apart from that, this phone is really a great phone for someone who likes to spend days/nights tingling with his/her phone with additional applications.

😎

Hello
Yes there is mono sound, but I think that is not a problem. If you want to listen to mp3-s buy your self mp3 player. Its not so expensive and its very small so wearing it should not be a problem. You will even save your telephone battery.
Video recorder is different story. Original can record just around 9 sec (its not limited by time but by size of file bites) and ETI recorder can record just without sound. There is video recorder from Italian provider that can record around 50 sek witch is better than 9, but the recording is not so good quality and its in Italian language. That is not so big problem, I dont know nothing about Italian and I manage to record and preview. You can find it here
Now its your turn to decide what you want quality or quantity.

I think that all N6600 owners just wait for somebody to throw out recorder with good quality and unlimited recording. Of course there will always be memory limit.

That is why people buy smartphones, because they don't wan't to buy separate PDAs Phones and mp3 players. The N-Gage,SX1,p800,p900 are perfectly fine as mp3 players.

I've read a lot of reports about the connectivity of the 6600, so just want to clear it up before I finalise the deal.

I have a belkin 100 metre bluetooth adaptor, and want to know how easy it will be to connect.
I dont fancy buying the phone, for it to be impossible to connect to the PC. Also, does anyone know how fast it would be to transfer stuff via bluetooth, considering i'll be sending videos and pictures to the pc, and games, apps, music and videos to the phone.

Help appreciated! 😃

They do this on purpose ! For marketing activities and for product future generatios sales. Is machiavelic but is sadly true. Just think about it 😊 you will always find at least 1 missing feature on each device.

Maybe I'll find some techies to help me change the external speakers to stereo...

Personally, I think the Korean and Japanese handphones are something to look out for in the coming years, IF they focus more on GSM phones. I have seen quite a number of good handphones used in Japan years b4 a US or European maker comes up with a decent rival.

For example, most Nokia phones are still candy-bar design with no colour or lousy screens, mono sound, weird keypad etc. Same goes for Motorola who still clings to Clam-shape designs. It is not surprising Ericsson had to pair up with Sony to stay in the race. Before the first colour screen GSM phone (think Sony-Ericsson T-68) came about, there were already colour screen PDA phones with built-in camera and GPS receivers (eg. Seiko-Epson).

Check out the new phones from Samsung, Mitsubishi, Panasonic etc and you will know what I mean....

Connecting the phone to the PC via the BT adapter and file transfer is not a big issue, seting up PC Suite might be.The range will be arround 10-13 meters and a transfer rate arround 20KB/s
