is it possible to have a picture as the screen saver or a moving animation rather then the crappy nokia logo that comes up?

Yes... you can try software like PsiLoc's Screen Saver (search the web for site).
You can use animated GIF and pictures as ur screensaver, among other options. Only catch is when screen saver is activated, the screen backlight is off (to save battery, of course!) and the pictures may not be clear.
We already have a thread for that. From my experience I would tell that it is useless because the bcak light of the phone comes out few seconds after the screensaver starts, and if it stays on it will discharge the batt very quick. Plus ussually when you don't use your phone, it's either in your pocket or in it's case, not really the same as a computer...
