Can someone explain why my thread about making DVD players region free was deleted (without any explanation)?
To my understanding, it is not illegal to make your DVD player region free. There are even legal companies (in UK and elsewhere) who are doing this for money.
I explained in my thread how I used my Nokia 6600 to make my DVD player region free, and some paranoic abusive moderator deleted my post.
Should I forget about this forum and post interesting ideas on another, friendlier forum?
I'm not shure, but perhaps they deleted it because it is illegal in some other countries?
But then again, I'm no Mod...
I'll investigate to see what happened.
This may have been a case of over kill, but please appreciate it's often the case we have to be very careful about what we do and do not allow and inevitably there are some false positives.

Well, I was the deleter, and the rationale was this. DVD Unlocking is regarded in some areas as illegal (arguably it breaks the USA DMCA and the EU equivalent). As Rafe says, we have to be very carefu, and IMO unlocking DVD's is a grey area (which generally is somethign we try to avoid). In retrospect perhaps locking would have been better than deleteing - please remember we've got hundreds of posts to look through.

Well, I think it's better having strict moderators than risking the forum itself, because it could be seen as warez and piracy promoter, and big companies are lately very susceptible...

At the end of the day we are here to talk about Symbian based smartphones.....So if you wanna talk about unlocking DVD players then maybe look for a different forum me thinks!!!
btw, DVD unlocking is not the only illegal thing which have posted into this forum.
some admins have illegal "location" information
like the name of the country etc.
remember what happened at 24 of this april of 2004 in cyprus, something like that.
however I was ready to gen banned from here, cause my "politicaly" beliefes,
in addition to that I had the opposite beleifes of an admin based on his location-country name
