Is there a way to store your web page cache on your mmc card? Keep a large cache of my often visited pages? Cause i'm tired of watching em load from scratch everytime in connect to the net! What about opera? Can I do this with Opera? Is the benefit of using Opera out weigh the fact that it hogs up more space on your Nokia?
Thanks!
Hi Matt,
I'm not sure if you can change the cache to the memory card of the "normal" internet browser, but you can change the ini file of Opera so that it has the cache on the memory card. Simply transfer the ine file to your computer and edit it with a text editor. YEdit for 9210 might work as well. Then you can edit it directly in your phone.

Cool! =) Thanks for the info.
I've been playing with PDA's for years and years and I recently just sold my IPAQ 3975 on ebay cause i'm so impressed with the Nokia 9290. One unit one solution. Cant beat it.
I'm at the point with my 9290 that i'm about to reset the thing back to the factory settings and custom load the thing up with only apps that i'll use and have played with. I know that I cant do much about gettting rid of the default browser.. but if opera is the way to go..than i'm all over it.
Something about the default email program that i noticed was that there isn't a setting to leave a copy of the email on the server?? Can you do this or am I missing something? Is there another much more configurable Email app out there? If i do a hard reset on my 9290 (which if someone can tell me how to do.. or i'll resort to RTFM.. i'd appreciate it) is the email app in rom or is it an app included with the cd?
Any advice or input ALWAYS greatly appreciated!
THANKS
Oh yeah .. what version of Opera for the Symbian am i suppose to use?? Cause there's a disclaimer about it not being compatible with the 9210/9290 ...
You can't use the version of Opera for Symbian from www.opera.com as that is for Epoc devices. You'll need the Opera that ships with the 9210i.
You can get this from the Nokia C++ SDK. Have a look for the relevant tip on http://www.my-communicator.com for details. It requires manual installation of files and acquiring the SDK.
You'll also need version 4.13 of the OS. Pre-4.13 version will still allow you to run Opera but image display won't work.
Chris.
Chris gave you the instructions concering Opera. Opera works on the 9210/9290, but will consume more memory than the "normal" internal browser :x
The email application will leave a copy of your email on the server. If you however would to keep emails on your 9290, then you should copy them out of the email account folder to a new folder. Otherwise they will be gone once you've completely downloaded them from your server and reconnect with your 9290. There unfortunately isn't any other email application, just enhancements like ActiveDesk or ActiveMail.
As for the hard reset (you are on your on with this, so don't blame me if anything goes wrong 😉 ), remove the battery and once you see the welcome screen, use CTRL+Shift+F, which will format your 9290. After that you have to install All_Nokia_9290_data.sis. Check chapter 12 "Troubleshooting" in the user guide 😉
