Hi,
I have just upgraded my 6600 to the Firmware v4.09.1. Juts thought of sharing what I did:

1) Backup phone memory to MMC card (n PC, of course!) :tongue:
2) Send 6600 to NCC for firmware upgrade
3) Upon receiving the upgraded 6600, restore from MMC card
4) Restart phone for various start-up settings to taking effect n check that restore is successful.
5) Set PIN passwords, if any (ie. all reset to default "12345"😉
6) Adjust location of various program icons in various folders (Yes, the saved locations in MMC will not be restored) :frown:
7) Do further checks on various programs if deemed necessary

With the above, all of my previous settings are recovered with my contacts and calendar syn-ed. It took about 15 minutes to complete the above. My phone is working well now. 😃

Just a few things to note before you send your 6600s in to NCC:

1) Bring warranty card;
2) Check Retailer Stamp is on warranty card;
3) Bring ID (for collection later);
4) Remove all physical modifications (eg. alternative casings etc) to avoid voiding warranty;
5) Format phone to factory setting using codes if you want to remove all personal information in phone memory (info in AppMan still remains);

Hope the above information is useful to you when you upgrade your 6600 firmware.

😎

Hmm... Warranty card 😃
You mean that official Nokia thingie with the hologram and all that? :P

Well, I'm just gonna have to go to one of those stores that just upgrade your firmware for a small fee as I saved about $200 when I bought my phone by not purchasing from a large retailer that provides the Nokia warranty certificate.

lol ya me too did the same thing as billing was so expensive i saved 150$ as well.
here it takes $2 to update the fw from the official nokia center.

Without warranty, NCC can still upgrade the firmware at a small fee.

With warranty, it is free within the first year. Not to mention defective parts (eg. insensitive keypad, on/off switch etc).

If I upgrade at an NSC I void the warranty the retailer gave me 😃
I have to upgrade at that retailer and I can bet they don't yet have the new firmware. But who knows, maybe they do and maybe my phone will also have Romanian T9 😃 (I use Agile Messenger a lot and I always speak w/my friends in English as it's easier to type with T9😃)

how do u back up phone memory to your MMC card and restore them back? do you just used a software like FE explorer and copy those files to your MMC card?
