PC Suite Backup/Restore Problem - Extra files in FileStore

Hi,
I have this problem with my PC Suite after a few backups. There seem to be a list of files in FileStore that is no longer in my backup directory (ie. replaced or deleted previously on phone). Noticed that the list of files in FileStore is sequentially numbered and when I perform a backup, more files are added starting from the last highest running number.

When I do a restore, PC suite will prompt me for "error handling" when the replaced or deleted files are not found physically on the backup directory. If I select "skip file", it will continue to work. The problem is that I have over a hundred missing files now and selecting "skip file" over a hundred times can be very tedious and boring.

Anyone know how to "compact" the 2 Filestore files and remove these incorrect/missing file names?

I guess you could just delete the *.DAT files and amend the filestore.dat.txt & filestore.dat documents. Dont know if this would work or not but its worth a try.

In the past I have moved 7650 contacts and images from the backup of a 7650 to a 6600 backup.

Make sure you backup you backup before playing around with.

Also look out for a program by 18plus2 which is called Pc Suite Tweeker and will convert the *.DAT files back into a file directory.

Please let us know the out come.

Hi,
The actual DAT files were already gone (ie. deleted or replaced by PC suite) but the entries still remain in FileStore. For example, on HD, I have 1 to 3089.DAT and then 4469.DAT onwards (ie. 3090.DAT to 4468.DAT missing). In my FileStore, entries for 1.DAT to my highest DAT file exists.

Tried using PC Suite Tweeker and hit error when trying to find the missing files in FileStore.

I do backup my backups by duplicating the whole backup directories and date them. Now, I have just rename my earliest backup directory to PC Suite's default and do a full backup. Not the best option, especially if one does not have the earlier backup directories intact, but I hope it works. There should be a better option than this....

Will keep you folks posted.

Hi,
Just completed my new backup.... 4000+ entries compared to previous 6000+ entries in FileStore. Think my oldest backup copy may still have some "holes" but this version should require less "skip files" during restores. Apart from "directory" entries which has no corresponding backup DAT files, guess I am stuck with these fewer missing files.

May be good if there is some utilities to auto-edit/compress the 2 FileStore files.
