I'm sending a lot of files from and to my nokia 6600 and it's pretty slow (something like 100Kbps). Does anyone knows what is the speed of bluetooth and if it's the same for forward and reverse?
Bluetooth Speed

I'd say thats pretty fast, i get 24kbps, whats your secret, what bluetooth adapter are you using?
😊
24kbps?!You might be mistaken, that is too slow, its arround 2KB per sec.I usually get arroud 15-20 KB per sec depending on the range.
BTW,The speed of Bluetooth devices depends on the class of the bluetooth device.A Class 1 device in theory can go up to 800kbps.Of course, the 6600 doesn't feature a Class 1 chipset.

Possibly mistaken, have a look, i've attached a screen grab of the transfer window in progress.
😊
24KB/s = 24 kilobytes per second = 192 kbps = 192 kilobits per second

I see, 1 byte = 8 bits right?, on the back of the pack my bluetooth adaptor came in it says "Up to 721kbps" so that should give me a max of 90.125KB/s transfer, right?
So my 24KB/s is not that slow after all then?
😊
I get FAST transfers to my palm (whatever speed, it just flies by). But I'm only getting 2-4KB to my 6600 at the same distance with the same software. Is my phone defective?
jasont:
I have had similar problems with BT transfers (althrought it was more looking like sometimes the transfer rate was slow (2kB/sec), sometimes it was fast (20kB/sec)... getting newest BT drivers pretty much solved the problem and now I get fast connection all the time
I tried switching computers, switching adapters, and finally today I got a new 6600. No matter what drivers or firmware I use I still have 4KB as the maximum. I called nokia today and spoke to someon who had no idea what they were talking about. Couldn't bring up the BT specs for the '3650', '3600', or '6600'. Said they used the same gprs high data rate *rolls eyes* and said I could take my phone in and have it looked at (thanks to the 14 day return policy I didn't care). He couldn't even tell me if it said what class device it was 😉 I even tried to explain it to him. There is something buggy w/ the bluetooth system on the 6600. CID doesn't go out, people say they have headset and data problems (something about audio channels maxing out any bluetooth connections). The phone is definately not working correctly if it has the same 'transmitter' as the other noks I tested. I get 24KB for everything Palm, noks, etc...but the 6600 is doing 4 period. I guess it's testing time to see if it's doing something really stupid..ok it is doing something stupid, but I mean really stupid. What firmware do people getting 24KB's have?
I'm:4.09 26-02-04 NHL-10 (probably said that before) and my BT is coned 😞
use memory card reader for tranfer of big and no of files then u will forget bluetooth and Ir
Vicky wrote:use memory card reader for tranfer of big and no of files then u will forget bluetooth and Ir
I know it's an option, but I won't forget how much I appreciate bluetooth. I don't take the card out of my palm to load it. BT is great. At least I managed to get a good speed upload from my phone ('25KB'😉 with wisend. I'm surprised nokia didn't do better w/ the phone side of their BT. If you look at the dev pages you see they're almost focused on one host chipset on the computer side. I'm going to see if I can get an OBEX going the other way at the right speed w/o using default drivers.
Question: What's the best commercial, shareware, or freeware for sending files from the Nokia side of things w/ BT? wisend (demo) works well, but the navigation isn't all that and it crashes when you try to pull from the inbox. Suggestions anyone please.
Thanks

I don't know how well it works but you can try filexplorer (or sth like that) from www.bitween.com
The nice thing is that you can upload/download files from/to PC using your cellphone 😊

Yeah you hit it on the head. I'm trying to debug a mac setup (using my pc dongle has no effect) So what I need is to initiate the transfer from the phone by browsing the device. I don't know what protocol it is using for 'bluetooth file transfer' (guess...OBEX File Transfer 😉 , but there's definately a probelm. I haven't compiled all the open obex and bt libs to run sdptool against it. I can create outgoing ports paired to the device (serial or modem) and modify them for authentication values or whatever...but I'm also braindead on how to pipe a file to the device through the port. I wish something like cat <myfile> > /dev/bluetooth_OBEX_Push <myfile> worked, but that doesn't seem to do it (played w/ authentication too.
I once (in the past couple of weeks) saw a fileexplorer that was platform independent, but now I can't find it anywhere on the net 😞.
Anyone?
man formatting 256 cards takes forever
Go to http://www.gosymbian.com/ for FExplorer for Series 60 phones.
so is class 1 better to buy or class 2. gettin a bt dongle this week mayb a 100 mt. one. wht class shud i get im lost.
Jesal wrote:so is class 1 better to buy or class 2. gettin a bt dongle this week mayb a 100 mt. one. wht class shud i get im lost.
The highest class is based on emiter power. For example, a Belkin Bluetooth Access Point (I may be wrong on the class id's and power) is class 1 so it's supposed to have the big 100M range or whatever. However, it doesn't matter what class you're connecting to because the connection distance is limited to the weakest link in the chain. Your mobile isn't going to be of the highest class because it would eat the battery up. It could be, but I haven't seen that kind of range w/ bt or with handsfree bt. It seems to be the same as my palm.
Now, if you're getting a dongle remember, power requires power. I'm not sure what the bus power is required to give you the highest class, but it's definately worth checking before you buy (whether you have usb 1,2 firewire or ilink (6pin) fw 800, or you go pci, whatever).
The more important thing is to make sure that you buy a dongle that conforms to the specifications of the device you want to connect to (although a lot of this should be done through the software). Search the forum for adapters or dongles to see what people have found to be the best. A lot of the protocol is software driven, but it's also good to get an adapter that is flash upgradable. My D-Link V2 works well.
As for Fexplorer (use it all the time. Doesn't solve browsing remote for me)

If that's the foundation for nokia thinking / dev then you might want to be asking chipsets and brands. If you HAVE a billington then why don't you connect to it and find out? For me, I was having speed problems. I just bought a dlink b4 revision dongle and it tripled mine. (b2 sucks). Soo if you do go to a store and there is a pile of them laying around (whatever brand)..look to see revision and (like phones) manufacturer date. Whatever class you get will work w/ your phone. Just make sure you don't find something that's below Bluetooth 1.1 protocol (somehow).
