After seeing pictures and the technical specification of the N-Gage QD, which do you prefer? 'Taco Classic' or the QD?
Will you N-Gage owners be 'upgrading' to this new device, or staying put? Although it seems Nokia don't actually see this new phone as a replacement for the old N-Gage, instead, just an 'alternative'.
I preffer the original N-Gage.Its very obvious why:Radio,mp3,stereo output and i like the old design better but if the QD is priced arround 100-150 euros i will probably get one.

I certainly won't be downgrading, no. I just noticed yet another omission in the QD (Quite Disappointing); it's only Dual-band.
So to sum it up, by "up"grading to this new joke from Nokia you will lose:
- Tri-band
- USB connectivity
- Stereo MP3
- Radio
The QD is even heavier and thicker than the original N-Gage.
What you will gain:
- MMC Hot swap (not really an issue with the original N-Gage if you have a big MMC card)
- No more "Side talkin'" (not really an issue with the original N-Gage because you don't_have to_hold it like that)
- A higher capacity battery
- Smaller over-all size.
To quote myself from the news forum:
i'm gonna buy an N-Gage this week. I think the N-Gage has much better features than the N-Gage QD. I think the QD is an downgrade from the N-Gage. Same screen, no MP3, no Radio, no Stereo, no USB and same OS version. Its only smaller and has hotswap MMC's, but i dont need hotswap MMC's cause i put the games on my own MMC.
Thats why i'll buy the 'normal' N-Gage. I'll take the sidetalking for granted.
N-Gage QD is like a Lite version of N-Gage. They removed the extra features, and they changed the look... the design is good, but N-Gage is much better i think. Everybody waited a real upgrade from nokia for N-Gage, but it isn't. I think the biggest specifications of N-Gage are which they removed from N-Gage QD.
:icon13: It doesn't impress me as the release of N-Gage.
BTW:The screen is not the same.
Other differences include a bigger battery in the N-Gage QD for extended gaming time and a different display for a brighter gaming experience. Additionally, the earpiece has been moved from the side to the front on N-Gage QD, which is also smaller than the original N-Gage game deck.
its not triband??
that sucks
if its 99$ ill get it and not one penny more
the gamecube is the same price😉
GhostDog wrote:BTW:The screen is not the same.
Ok so the screen is a bit brighter. The original N-Gage is still much better. I waited to see what this new N-gage was going to be like. But now i've seen it and i will get the original N-Gage.
Actually, it's not the same OS version...it's actually an upgraded Symbian 7.0, the original being 6.1. I think what you people mean is the same User Interface, which is of course, the Series 60. As to my preference, I really don't know. I mean, the original has so many more features, yes, but at the same time, the QD looks WAY better and is hot swappable, an important feature for me considering that my own Series 60 Nokia 3650 takes up so much battery from just powering on and off, a great annoyance indeed. But seeing as how it's not Tri-band, another important criteria since I am situated in the United States, I'll probably go with the original...in fact, I think it'd be interesting to "side-talk"! 😃

Nope,its the same OS and UI version.Symbian 6.1 and Series 60 1.2
the QD looks WAY better
That is a matter of taste,i really don't like it.
GhostDog wrote:Nope, its the same OS and UI version.Symbian 6.1 and Series 60 1.2 Actually, I misread it, yeah, sorry, it is the same OS.

As to the matter of taste, I absolutely love it...just wish it was at least tri-band!
i admit that the news that nokia is coming out with QD did hit me hard earlier cuz i just bought 'The N-GAGE'. But that was when the spec sheet is not out yet.
At this moment, i'm more than happy to say that QD is a no no to me. I'm sticking with 'The N-GAGE'. I think QD is not as pratical as the orginal despite its smaller size .....
and yeah, btw i dun really mind the side-talkin cuz sometimes it can be a positive thing ! hehe .. personnally, i met some new frens because of side talkin .. ehhee... and in-fact they became n-gagers too after playing with it for a while ....
I saw the n-gage QD, and i must admit I like the design much more. An n-gage inside a 3300 design, only improved. No MP3, though, so I think I'm sticking to the original-and sidetalking isn't so bad. But the really important news is that the games are fully compatible, which was what needed to know! after all it wasn't an N-gage two, only a kind of SP version. I really couldn't have spent money in another device, I'm an student and only work part-time, and the degree itself is expensive enough :S thanks nokia!
I think QD is a version for people who don't use the device as MP3 player and radio, mostly for gaming. QD is more game device than N-Gage in design. It is not as N-Gage original, they removed the specifications that people who will only pay games and talk will not use. They made powerful in the gaming specifications. Now people have 2 N-Gage choices. A gamedeck+phone which is QD. and a All-in-One phone which is N-Gage classic.
BTW. they said that they cut the price... but it is $199.00. It is a bit expensive to buy and try a new and second N-Gage 😊
I'm not surprised that N-Gage owners prefer the original. QD isn't aimed at existing N-Gage owners, it's aimed at the people who wouldn't touch the original with a 10-foot long barge pole, because of no MMC slot/side talkin'/high price/3-6 hr battery life. The battery life still isn't great but it is a significant improvement.
Anyway, with some of the key problems addressed there will be more N-Gage sales, and that can only be good thing for all concerned.
personally i like the new design but the lack of features is a huge downer. the mp3 player and radio are big pluses at the mo, ive never had a better life prob, a side talking prob or a hot swapping prob - altho this is the only plus i can see on the QD.
whoever the target audience is they wont suceed unless the turnaround of games increases a hell of a lot !
with it being the same os, presumably the games for the new deck work on our old un ? just with more colours ?!?!
Cant help but feel like this is a slap in the face for those of use who had faith in the original and aplshed out for it - twice in my case ! I know its not, but thats the way it comes across.

There are games out there - Jim and I tried out Ashen, Tiger Woods, Marcel Desailly, Crash Bandicoot, Ghost Recon and a few others at the Launch Event. These all look ready. I think the key is a constant release schedule, ie one new MMC Game every 3 weeks, guaranteed for a few months. That would help immensly.
It's a 12bit screen - the same number of colous as the original device. And QD is NOT a replacement for the Classic, it's going to be sold alongside it. The N-Gage BRAND will continue. Any N-Gage deck can play any N-Gage game. A bit like the Nintendo GBA and GBA SP situation.
I can't see why expanding the portfolio, getting new users, getting more sales of devices and units, and thus helping new games appear, is a slap in the face.
well if you put it like that !
i didnt know any of that, the lack of games and this release led me to believe my deck was destined to gather dust !
getting a few more games out there will cheer up most n-gagers. surely you can see how i would perceive this as a slap in the face ?
its basically down to lack of info, but now i know the full story im a tad happier.
Not too happy but thats cos of the hell hole i work in and am sending this from 😊
Lack of info and problems communicating with groups such as AAS is a problem Nokia have acknowedeged and are working on. We're working on it as well, so hopefully we can keep you up to date. We've got an interview with Ilkka Raiskinen (Nokia VP for the N-Gage) which should be posted shortly which might give you an insight into Nokia's thinking. Look out for it next week.

Have a glance at the AAN Games Database and browse through some of the upcoming titles.
Cheers fella, much appreciated. :icon14: :icon14: :icon14:

True that. I guess the N-Gage series will expand even more, and maybe the one after the QD will offer a worthwhile upgrade path for existing users.

I prefer A gamedeck+phone in 199$
and i got my own mp3 player (256 mb) so i think QD is perfect for me in this price 😊
someone know when it's gonna be released in Israel?
(Europe and US doesn't make delivers to my little country...)
No way! I dont check the forum for a week and i miss all this important news, just my luck. I much prefer the features of the original n-gage, but the loom of the QD is loads nicer looking.
Its such a shame that theyve taken away so many important features to me.
Am i right in assuming that there is still no add on camera available for this n-gage either? (sorry if this pops up in one of the following threads, this is the first one ive read so far),
SAbz
No, no new add-on cameras announced by anyone.
just wondering, would 3rd party mp3 players work?
jaybadass wrote:just wondering, would 3rd party mp3 players work?
yes, but the quality is very bad... (mono)
I prefer the original one, for the functions.
I prefer the QD for the design.
Maybe I'll buy the QD, and a MP3 player, because I really like the design of the QD, but I wanna keep the original functions. Or maybe I'll try psiloc system tools' flight mode, and I'll have both in my pocket... No, that's a lame idea.
Both N-Gage Classic and QD have Offline(flight mode) profile.
