... about themes actually based on existing themes ?? for example this one:

http://symbianthemes.com/info.php?id=310

it's called Green Manga.. it's actually build over MY Green Lantern theme..the icons, the bars, tabs, even the analogue clock.. i mean almost everything except the wallpapers, pinboards and some window color are changed but you can really see that it's actually the green lantern theme..

i mean you can't prohibit people to use it but i think they should have originality too.. i spent a lot of time creating those tabs and bars, masking the icons so that they never have a white outline.. and then you see your work bein used by others.. is kinda frustating..

hey i also used some parts of existing themes on my early days of theme creation but i still put in some new things and tried not to really copy.. i always tried to make it MY own..

so guys what are your opinions...

Hi,

The theme is good mate, you make some nice themes and share them with others.
I've started doing the same with mine, using common parts but altering the main pictures to suit a new theme.

It's the other bit that puzzles me a bit, if you don't want to share it or have people use your work then don't post it mate.

Why is it frustrating? Take it as a compliment that they like your hard work to use in their own theme.
I've made some of my own icons and used other peoples as well, but only one's that appeal to me for the way they look.
Lets not forget these icons were most probably taken from somewhere else anyway and just resized for our phones, has the original creator kicked up any fuss about his work being used? No, not to my knowledge anyway.

I maybe wrong but to me now this theme lark is getting a little to protective and quite nasty at times, all for no real reason.
It's almost like, "Ok this is MINE! You can use it if you want but it's mine, I made it, I own it, but you can have it as long as you abide by my rules".

I totally agree with you that if a person has made a theme then they deserve the credit for it and not have what has happened recently, where people have uploaded to SymbianThemes and almost called it their own work when quite plainly it isn't. A genuine mistake is a mistake though, so you cannot judge until you know for sure.

As I said very well done on your theme's but if your not happy with people using them and parts of them don't post them.

This is no way a dig or nasty post, just my thoughts. Bear in mind some of my theme parts may or may not have been used, in that same school of thought I to have used others work myself.

Ian

thanx for your thoughts dude..

don't get me wrong.. i love to share it with everyone who has a 6600.. and i'm proud that a lot of people outthere appreciate my work..

my main point is that a lot of people lacks of creativity and originality.. i would love to see more people come up with new ideas.. not just wait until somebody makes it for them.. i would like those people to experience the same hard work we did.. they should know how long it takes to create a theme out of the blue..

but i will still continue to post my future themes with y'all, no doubt about that..

Well said, thank you for not taking it the wrong way to.

Yeah your quite right in what you say.
I'm sure like me you've seen the sudden influx of new and different theme's from many, many people and it's interesting to see what different peoples likes are.
Some are basic (as were my own when I first started) and some are more involved and obviously took some time.

"a lot of people lacks of creativity and originality" Hehehe, me 😉

I can make theme's and such like but I'm not very art'y. Wish I was but I'm not.
But then if you go to the other end of the scale and look at some of Aefox's theme's, now he comes across as very artified.

I'm just trying to decide what to have a go at next theme wise.... hmmm.

Ian

getting started is always hard but as soon as you've made 3 or 4 themes.. then you automatically come up with new ideas..

i'm not very artified as well i'm still learning and while i'm learning i try to apply it on my themes.. and thank god.. something came out that wasn't bad at all.. AEFox is at a different level but i can easily re-build his work.. but i won't do that cuz that would make me one of "Them" 😃 😃

I agree with you both,

I can see exactly where you are both coming from, but posting themes for others to use and then have them rip them apart and use your tabs or whatever,is a bit frustrating coz in the end there will be no truly new themes, they will just end up being a mix up of all the others,(which will be a shame).

But as Ian said, the images used to make themes all come from someone else anyway.

People will soon realize the themes that are good and all new and the respect will go to those theme makers (such as yourself Raikee) for the green lantern.

😉

HI!..

again...

You can do whatever you want (sharing, ripping, change colours, using parts interchange, transplants, deep surgery, etc.) between FREE THEMES...

cya!
