I have just broken the screen for my P800 :frown:.
My insurance has just run out as well so I have ordered a new P900.
In the meantime I would like to do a full backup of the phone (I do have one, it's just not very recent), but the last time I used my P800 I switched both the IR and cable connections to modem (rather than PC connect) and Bluetooth is turned off.
I need to know whether it's possible to change these settings without using the broken screen.
I can get as far as starting Control Panel using the buttons, but it starts on the Device tab. I need the connections tab and I don't know of a way to switch tabs without using the screen - is there one?
If not, does anyone have any bright ideas as to how I can do a backup of the phone (the memory stick is clearly not a problem).
if you can get over the connection problem you might use Remote Px00, which will show your P800 screen on the monitor, so you won't need touch it!
That would be useful, but I clearly still have the problem of getting that far.
Is there perhaps some way of resetting the phone without losing the data? That is changing the configuration to the factory default, but not deleting my user data?
don't think that would be possible!
but try going to any of the SE service centers, as they might help you.
or you may even ask for replacing the screen with a used, scrached but working one, which won't cost you much!
I guess the new screen will cost $200
good luck
I am answering my own post here but just in case this is useful to someone else...
hAnDyGUY and someone else on My-Symbian suggested I use the flip closed menus (which are clearly designed to be used without the screen). This hadn't occurred to me as I have never used them, but it did the trick.
I managed to switch the cable connection from Modem to PC Connect and I have successfully backed up my phone. All I have to do now is wait for my shiny new P900 and attempt to munge my P800 data and apps onto it.
OT I am currently with Orange, but I hate them with a passion so I decided to move to Vodafone who provide my work mobile and have been very good. Unfortunately Voda won't allow the phone/SIM to be sent out until the number has been ported. Since it can take a week to obtain a PAC number and another 7-10 days actually to do the port, I might have waited two weeks. Consequently I am going with O2 instead. Vodafone, you've have lost an eager customer - bloody stupid.
glad to know it's done...
guess your next post would be in the P900 Forum 😊

That's assuming it turns up, I am still waiting for them to send it and I gave them my money on Friday.
Nevertheless, my P800 doesn't really work any more so I shan't be doing much with it. The only bad thing about all this (apart from having to pay UKP175) is that I cannot play Doom any more - I understand it doesn't work on the P900. I had got all the way through Doom, Doom II and was on the last episode of The Plutonia Experiment, rats.
then repair the screen .. and enjoy the DOOM (it's worth it) 😊

I know, I love Doom. I have found out since I wrote this that an updated EDoom has been released and it works even better on the P900 than the P800 (some bug fixes and the colours are beter).
