You may have seen from some of my other posts that I have been unfortunate enough to break my screen. I now have a shiny new P900, but since my P800 is mostly working, it seems a shame to throw it out.
I have two questions for you all.
Firstly, since my screen still displays fine, but the glass between it and me is cracked and the touch screen doesn't work, do I have to replace the whole lot. That is, do the display and the touch screen form a single sealed unit.
Secondly, is there anywhere where I can get used P800 parts (obviously I am specifically interested in a screen, but my keyboard is also slightly damaged).
display and touch screen are one unit, so changing the screen means both! and you have to to do that to get touch screen work
my friend changed his broken screen at SE center for less than $200, they updated the phone, and changed the broken keyboard as well for free, so try to get a similer deal, as if they have any used keayboard that works well, they can replace it with no more cost
sorry can't help you with the other Q, but I'm sure there are a ot of websites that sll these stuff, but I do suggest you change the screen at SE center
good luck... and congratulations on your P900 (at last 😊 )
Thanks hAnDyGUY (you really are being handy at the moment). It's annoying to have to replace the whole lot, but I suspected that would be the case.
I have looked on eBay and P800s are changing hands for USD300-400 so it's probably worth my while repairing the phone.
My screen is not cracked, but broken nonetheless. I checked with SE locally (Netherlands) and they charge around 300 euro (US$350) to replace the screen. Insane ofcourse. The local telecom shop guy said I should look for a broken-but-screen-working phone, or try and get my hands on a screen some other way.
So now I'm trying to find out how I could get my hands on such a screen, perhaps having it shipped in from Asia. Have other people been on similar quests and had any positive results?
Thanks for the link. I can certainly sell my P800 for more than $150.
Any advance on $150 anyone...
Hey if you live in the UK you can buy an LCD screen for just 40 at http://www.netdevpro.com/edirect/weblink/product.asp?pid=468
They might posst overseas aswell??
Now that's interesting! I've been thinking for a long time that the screen is an accident waiting to happen. I've saved that link...
Hey, just followed this thread and ordered from the above site. I'll let you all know how it turns out. In the meantime, I can use my phone as just a regular phone, but its hard to do when I'm so used to all of the great features of the p800.
I'm thinking of changing my screen too as it has several deep scratches, so plz let us know kow it turns out, and if you're gona fix it yourself!
Hi everybody,
I also was unfortunate enough to break the displau of my P800. I went back to SE loacl dealer and accepted to replace it for 160 Euros (in Italy). From your messages, it seems like replacing fees are pretty widly ranging depending on countries and continents. Strange isn't?
Ok I ordered from http://www.netdevpro.com/edirect/default.asp. It was about 40 pounds plus 5 pounds shipping ($85 or 70 Euro) from the UK to Italy. It arrived in a week after I ordered it and it took about 5 minutes to install. VERY EASY. I also ordered the t6 screwdriver, but it was the wrong size for my P800 (bought in Germany). I had to go to the hardware store to get the right size. So I dont recommend ordering the screwdriver from them.
All in all great service and super easy to fix! Good luck to everyone!
Forgot to mention if you are in the EU you will also have to pay 9 pounds VAT, but if you are outside of the EU, you wont.
any tips or cautions need to be taken while changing the screen?
Just to carefully open and close the housing, ant make sure you plug all of the little thingy's back in. Really it only took me about 5-10 minutes.
and they charge more than $150 for that, can u imagine 😊

A little late, but I just joined the forums today, so don't blame me.
I had my screen replaced in Belgium just around May, 2004 for 40 (yes, Euro !) If you still are in search for and you're not too far from Belgium try a Vanden Borre shop in Belgium. They are all over Belgium and adresses should be found on their website. You'll have to wait almost a fortnight before having the phone back, but for that price ... I just use a paper agenda and do not make calls for several days which makes the price even cheaper.
Jeecee 😉
Does the screen on that website come with both LCD and Touch Screen. Ive broken the touch screen on my phone so the LCD doesnt matter. but its essential that it comes with the touch screen/sensor part.
thanks
