Back-up

Hi....

I got a problem with back-up's.

I saw on several pages how to do this, but what i want is this;

1.Setting up the device.
2.Install every application i want to have.
3.Make sure everything is just like i want it.
4.Ad contacts, calender, etc,etc.

After this clean install i want to make a total back-up to my PC.
It would be easy if it was possible in case of problems to format both the drive's and put these back-up's back on the communicator.
This should make it possible to format and have a complete clean install within 15 minutes.
This is how i work on my PC for years, and its working great.

I'm trying for two days to back-up C on D and then copy this total back-up to my PC.
So far it's no problem.

To save space i usually install the all Nokia.sis on the D drive.
When i copy this total back-up from my PC to the 9210 I have no Filemanager????
Because of this i can't put my C back-up back to its C drive...

I tried to formt the 9210 with the phone off.
After that overwrite C with the back-up directly from my Pc. (works fine, exept for the log)
Then put the "D" back-up from my pc to the D drive from the communicator.(works ok)
BUT; still no filemanager.
Reboot, no filemanager....

There must be a way to do this.
I can't believe everyone always install every application over and over again if they want to format and setup the whole thing.

Hope for a little help;

Ren

Hint: copy d:\system\apps\fileman\*.* to c:\system\apps\fileman\*.* so you have two copies of filemanager, one on the naked commi and the other on the mmc.
You can use the first when there's no mmc in the slot; the second when your commi has been freshly formatted and there's no software on.
Having two copies is not a problem 😊

Hello debernardis;

Thanks for the hint, i have used this allready!

Is there somehing like a register as in Windows in epoc?

I installed the all Nokia.sis and the all memorycard on "D".
Made a copy of "C" on "D", and backed it up on my PC.

Formated the 9210 and the memorycard and put the backup back on the 9210.

It works, but i have some problems with the fax and pictures.

When I open a bitmap and select "save as" it give's or epoc, or JPEG (with an E in it), or bmp.
When I select jpeg it says unknown extension.
The Nokia picture in "C documents" has JPG as extention???? (without E)
What is this all about???

Because of the problems i have after using my backup i think there are hidden files or something like that that weren't copied.

Someone???

It's correct liek that 😉 The real name is JPEG, select that, then it will say, your image has the wrong extension do you want me to change this, press yes (this will add .jpg to the saved file)

So there is nothing wrong with the images 😉
