In general I find menu navigation rather slow (it usually takes more than one second to show the menus). Is it true on all 6600? Because I really think it is a serius drawback, because it is very annoying. Is there any simple solution to that?
Are there newer versions of the firmware that solve this problem? in any case, how do I know which version I have? Moreover, how do I update the firmware?
Best regards,

You will see what firmware you have by typing *#0000# in the idle/standby state.
You update it by taking/sending the phone to an authorized Nokia service center.
AS PER 6600
THE MENU IS ONLY SLOW WHEN U START THE PHONE
IT IS BCOZ MENU IS ALSO THE FUNCTION OF THE PHONE AND HWNE U BOOT UP THE DEVICE IT WILL TAKE 1 OR 3 SEC IN THE ORIGNAL THEME AND 2TO 4 SEC IN ANY OTHER THEME
SO I DON'T THINK THAT U SHOULD SPENT MONEY ON UPGRADATION IF U ARE FACING THIS PROB.
SOO WHEN U START IT HAS TO BE SLOW ONLY ONCE IF IT REPEATS THEN U SHOULD GO.
Hi...
If for you
* starting a new sms with numeric mode in TO: field and
* using Eti Camcorder for unlimited video
is worth getting millions of new bugs & restrictions..
Then go and get it updated..
Otherwise don't even dream about it, I would say.
Your dream may become a nightmare.
Trust me, a/m things are the only useful changes you will get.
Regarding speed..
They have increased the size of ram from a couple of 100 KB (I don't remember) to 1.36 megs and yes, the menus have become faster.
But everything else has become slower:
The speed of apps, browsing, sending & deleting sms, etc. is worse now.
It's up to you...
I am using 4.09.1 and I do not recommend it..

I loved the text ("Abc"😉 mode To: field default! 999 times out of a 1000 I'm sending messages to someone already in my Contacts, so that default was much, much more convenient; just type a letter or two, and move to writing the body and the phone found the name on its own.
For the 1 time in a 1000 when I actually need to type someone's number, I could change to numeric ("123"😉 mode without too much trouble.
I was disappointed when the firmware update returned back to behaviour in earlier Series 60 phones for this.
I agree N/A..
But many 6600 users don't/didn't like this feature..
The only advantage of the numeric mode I could think of would be that under certain conditions where the following letter for the name of the recipient is located on the same button, it could be annoying to wait for the cursor to move to the next field.
But that's all.
