Can't Connect P900 phone to PC

Hi forum people,

I just bought my new adored P900 phone, however I can't seem to connect my phone to my pc. Here's the problem:

I connected my USB cable to the computer, and the phone connection monitor on the taskbar showed a moving arrow and paused with 'jagged' arrows pointing away. I right-clicked on it and clicked on properties, it showed the phone to be connected on USB COM4 and there was a tick beside it. However, there was no phone detected on my computer. I clicked on the P900 icon on the desktop but it showed that the phone was not connected and I couldn't install any software into my p900 as well as it always returns an error message saying that "no phone is detected."

Here are some of my system details:
Windows XP
Microsoft Outlook as syncing software

I suspect that it could be that the system does not recognise my phone yet as usually there would be a pop-up window that asks me to allow the phone to connect for 1,3,5 or 10 min. However, it did not appear this time and I dun know what to do about it.

Did anyone come across similar problems? Or any experts out there??? Please help!!! Thanks.

5. in Control Panel, Connection, Cable, check that it's put on PC Connect NOT Modem

To everybody having problems connecting their p900 to their PC.

I have had this problem for weeks and I have just solved it for me and hopefully for you!

Load on the Sony PC suite, connect your phone, turn off your firewall, mine is Norton and I just turned off the firewall and not the whole thing. I then switched off my phone while still connected to the PC and then I turned it on again.

As the phone came on, so did the syncronisation pop up. Im very happy.

I really hope this works for you lot.

Hi,

Just got my secong P900 and facing exactly the same problem. Im using Windows XP and every thing is installed there properly. Connection monitoring icon on the taskbar says the USB connected (as COM4) but cannot detect my phone. My first ever P900 was working fine on the same computer with same sort of setup/installation.
I dont have any firewall installed and every thing is exactly as suggested by the forum people. Am I missing any thing?

Any help from any one???

This is definately a firewall problem. PCSuite wants some MFC application to act as server. If you have a firewall that does not allow it, you will get results described above.

hope that helps

I have just bought my P900 and am having the same problems after doing all the fixes and promlems solving on the SE site, it is saying it is connected by it cannot find the phone, how do I know if I have a firewall and how can I turn it off. I have NTL broadband.

I have been working on this problem for two days and then found this web site. I did as suggested and turn off my firewall and bingo it works, Thanks. Is there a way of configuring th firewall to work or will this defeat the object of the firewall???

i've tried everything that all you guys have said i d/l tha new pc suit 2.4.1 and turned off all firewals, my computer says its conected in COM4 but the pc suit just says not connected. when a i click on sync or install software it says "No phone ha sbeen identified by sony ericsson computer monitor" please connect and define your phone. i have windows xp. i only got the phone a few days ago so i might not know wat u mean. plz help. thanx

I had been able to sync contacts, calender & tasks but unable to sync my emails between Outlook/MS Exchange and P900.

Thanks to comments on this thread re. firewalls, I tried disabling the 'MS Exchange autoprotect' feature on Symantec Antivirus and the emails now sync.

However, dont like the fact that I need to disable the antivirus software to get the machine to sychronise. Does anyone know a fix for this?

Andy

Switching bluetooth on has been making my P900 hang/crash for a week or so and IR has not been working (no reaction when switched on)

I just did a backup of all data and upgraded Firmware to the latest online version and now Cable does not work either!

I cannot restore my backup because I cannot connect to my PC. I have done a master reset and reformatted the internal drive (via the hidden service menu) and I have uninstalled the new firmware and re-installed the version supplied on the CD with the phone. None of this has helped.

Any ideas?

I bought the 910i some weeks ago and after loading the PC Suit I just could not sync my phone with the PC despite trying everything. Then I found out that the driver for the cradle had not been loaded when you install the PC Suit. I have no idea why. You need to manually do this.

You need to put the PC Suit CD in the PC and then go to your control panel and go to System and look for harware config. You should find the syncing cradle as one of the items there with a yellow question mark (you must have connected the cradle to the PC first). It means there is prob with it. Right click on it and select install driver and then choose from the CD-Rom. it should load up fine from there and ..voila! You are syncing in no time.

This needs to be highlighted to Sony Ericsson. Some how when you install the PC Suit it does not install the driver!! : (
