7650 - dinosaur or vintage?

Since the 7650 release there have been a whole range of successors
(3600,3650,6600 etc). Have the people that originally bought
their 7650's ditched the model for something new or do you still find it useful?
I have one myself, but it has been on the shelf covered in dust for ages.
(..poor neglected thing)

The best Nokia smartphone design so far, just give me a MMC slot and MP3 play and I would buy the 7651 tomorrow.

That new 7600 thingy is hideous.

I must admit, I like my 3650 (despite the weird rotary style numbers)
but the 7600 ...not the greatest design.
Forget playing games on it! the numbers are in the wrong place.

Probably the same dude that designed the N-Gage to be used as a 'sideways
phone' which they hastily sorted for the QD!!
It's not very nice being laughed at on a bus!😡
I used to dread incoming calls! :frown:

If that is the concencus then I guess I should keep on supporting the 7650.
God to know ther are still 7650 devotees out there.

ash.

I love my 7650.
Infact, i had one and it broke, i have been thru 3 different phones in 3 months(one was a motorola a835...horrid phone!) and had to go back to the old 7650. Nothing i have used compares for durability etc.

Hi ^^

Well i got my 7650 since Nov02 now and still lovin' it ! In about 3 month i'll be able to get a new phone for some lowered price (with contract) and i'm thinking about the Sharp GX-30 ... I'd prefer the SonyEric P900 but thats a bit too expensive atm 🙄

Well Ive recently upgraded from a 7650 to a 6600 because the keypad on the 7650 was falling apart. To me little has changed, considering the 7650 came out 2 years ago Nokia are just being lazy.

Problems with 6600

Still cant assign individual sms alerts!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Email client is still complete crap. No automated retrieval, no folder support for IMAP which means if you have server side sorting of email, (the whole point of IMAP) you wont be able to see any of these emails. Doesnt support secure smtp servers.

Themes with custom icons runs very slowly, I have to revert to system icons for it to be acceptable.

GPRS counter still lumps all the traffic together even though MMS GPRS gateway traffic is billed differently for most people.

You still cant add most programs to the Go to screen rendering it mostly useless.

If you set the ring tone in a profile to ascending the SMS tone also ascends. The only problem is SMS tones are never long enough to reach the max volume.

Stupid 100k limit on video.

Can no longer access PC internet using GPRS over bluetooth!!!!!!

Stupid non standard 2.5 mm headphone socket.

Photo quality looks the same to me and I suspect they are still being interpolated to 640 by 480 from a lower resolution. This is dishonest and wastes memory and bandwidth. People can just stretch the photos themselves on a PC if they want to, using more sophisticated software.

PC suite is still insultingly functionless and difficult to connect.

Plus points.

Supports extra memory card. This is a major plus and about the only real reason to upgrade.

Context sensitive help in menus giving you a little extra detail on the settings.

Phone seems more stable than my 7650. Not sure if Symbian developers are just more experienced now and are writing better software.

Slightly less Ugly and heavy (thats a very subjective thing and mostly irrelevant to me anyway 😊 )

I hope this helps some people in their upgrading decisions. Had my 7650 not broken Id have hung onto it until a more worthy successor appeared on the market. The 6600 isnt a bad phone but its nothing special unlike the 7650 at its launch.

It is a true 640x480 sensor. No "interpolation" or dishonesty there.
