OK, lets be realistic, will somebody step up and reveal this secret for all of us. Since it has been approved by the FCC already and it was scheduled for a Q2 release, what does this mean? Please, give us rooks some input, how has Nokia and ATT been about meeting these dates in the past? What is the average wait time from FCC regulation to released and out on the shelves. I asked an ATT seller and he said that in reality the phone would be out in October if we are lucky, but I've noticed that these guys know SQUAT about these phones.
Release Info
Oh and could somebody please, please, unconfuse me about this...
Is the Q2 release of the 7610 for US or for everybody else, if not US then why was it approved by FCC?
I hope its US cause I want this phone but I cant wait any longer.
Q2 is an estimate for first availability somewhere in the world. It could mean in volume or in limited quantities. Q2 ends on the last day of June.
FCC approval doesn't mean that first availability will be in the US. All it means is that FCC has approved the hardware and that it can be sold in the US if Nokia decides to do so some day. Most likely it will, but not before it is shipping in Europe.
Bummer, I guess I'll just get the 6620
I have seen on both the carphonewarehouse website, and also i e-mailed phones 4 u and they both tally that they reckon July in the UK, although they have no pricing info.
Hi,
I heard it would be released in Belgium around the 15th of july at the price of 540euro
I hope this helps a bit 😊
I have just e-mailed Orange UK directly and got this response:
---------------------
Thank you for your email about the Nokia 7610.
This model is currently undergoing tests and is due to launch on Orange pay as
you go during June 04.
!!!!!
Does that mean that it wont be out as a contract phone on Orange???!!!!!!!
!!!!
Please reply!
(should i just get the 6600 now?)
It is bound to be on contract.
They wouldnt release it on PAYG and not contract. normally its the other way round!
For an expensive phone, (possibly for business use), it will be on contract I am sure.
(well thats what im waiting for!)
instant relief~
I was really scared for a moment that it was going to get released on payg and not on contract!
You see, I was going to get a contract phone from orange. A nokia 6600. and then i was searching around about symbian. and then this 7610 was somewhere. And i was like.. Whoa!!! and yeah. I'm an impatient fella. but seeing as this is going to be released WITHIN this year. I thought i might wait.
Let's hope nothing like the sendo x thing happens.
Still wondering about that 6600 though. i cant survive 2 months without a phone~~~!!
Well they said June in the e-mail so I don't think it shouldn't be two months. I am waiting for the 7610, and yes I am interested in Orange contract so I hope they do it or else..! lol
It is deffinatly near release from what I can make on around the net. Fingers crossed anyway.
well. ok. so now its a BIT off-topic. But if it was released in june (somewhat). How much would it cost WITH a contract. It seems that everyone has some hideous handset only price in euros (which i dont understand) that's like 500?
so. a standard contract is like 25-30 pounds per month so... um. yeah. so that turns about 300-360 pounds per year just on contract. would that make the phone free? well. actually, i severely doubt that they would offer the phone for free on contract. lol. unless you're on a price plan thats like 75 per month. but still.
Anyone have a GENERAL/ROUGH idea or pricing?
and again, sorry for the offtopicness.
500Euros is approx 340.
And i think the best way to come up with a contract price is to look at existing phones.
The 6600 is upto 300 sim free, and Orange are offering it for 49.99 for 25 and over contracts. (It says a special offer) so taking that into account I believe that the 7610 maybe 99.99 for 30 or more contracts. And obviously free on the more expensive contracts, like 75 like you said.
i hope its 100-ish for 25 pounds per month. I really really dont think I want a pricier plan... And the thing that ALWAYS sucks about contract phones is that inclusive minutes never apply to foreign calls. I'll probably bleed my phone dryyyy. PAYG has its advantages. I mean, when you want to call abroad, you use the money you have on your phone. You dont have to pay ADDITIONALLY. grrr.
But then. GPRS is only available on contract. right? I think so. And with GPRS comes the nifty mail stuff and internet etc. All about Pros and Cons. I guess. I so badly want the phone now, before something new comes in the way. And before I have to start wanting another phone. But honestly. the only bad thing about the phone is. well. the quality of the pictures is ok, considering that its not gonna be my primary camera or anything. but the look of the back is not as appealing as the front.
just fickle stuff.
Anyone know what the new offer will be from orange. I mean, recently theres this offer which gives you 1mb of GPRS, less text messages but 1 free downloadable game. And i thought that was kinda cool, seeing as i dont text too much. and even then, i think inclusive texts refers to UK texts and not texts abroad.
oh well.
how do people ever manage to get cheap calls abroad.. i wonder.
argh. realised its completely off topic.
oh well everyone. June 4th hopefully. Before June 31st, realistically, i guess.
You can get GPRS on PAYG, although not as a package. Its 4 per MB on Orange.
I perfer PAYG to be honest, but the price of the phone will be much prettier on contract! lol.
Don't know about calla abroad. Don't do it often.
i prefer PAYG anyday.
However, the attraction of contract phones is two-fold.
Upgrades (new phone for cheap price)
and the initial price for the phone
not to mention that most cool phones happen to be contract anyway.
Do you know anything new about release dates? A swedish retailer has set June 25th as preliminary date of delivery. I really hope it doesn't get prolonged. Won't wait much longer than that.
carphone warehouse in its site indicates that its sometimes in july!!!!
NOT HAPPY!. i hope they're wrong. i so hope they're wrong. I mean. currently, i was thinking. If the 7610 comes out, the price of 6600 should drop. Right? so if 7610 is too expensive. I probably can get a 6600 for free (contract 25-30 pounds/month)
i just hope it comes out when its meant to. june 4th. (a bit upthread)..
waiting...
7610 will release on monday 31.5! At least hier in Finland!
noooo!!!!! must release jun. 4th. but its stupid to believe in something untrue.
I desperately need a new phone now. my contract is gonna end. NEED AN UPGRADE!
oh well.
how do people ever manage to get cheap calls abroad.. i wonder.
Try www.telediscount.co.uk and use their 08XX access numbers - they might be inclusive in your monthly minutes allowance (that means calling say, Poland, from your inclusive minutes). Be sure to check the access number with your network operator though (eg. 09XX numbers are charged at premium)
the 7610 is out in france but it seems only at carphone warhouse (phone house) and in limited quantities. now im just waiting for Orange to send me a f*** paper so i can leave their stinky service and keeep my number . i asked 1 1/2 months ago for this paper ... its really starting to get on my nerves....
Well. As far as i got from O2 and Orange Customer Service, on O2 Leisure Time Plus, 0845/44/70 calls are INCLUSIVE in the OFFPEAK time band. I called Orange CS about their OVP O2 and apparently, whatever O2 is offering, Orange can copy~
I don't know why you have had problems with Orange, but I admire their customer service.. Truly efficient, whenever I used it. Never needed to wait more than 2 minutes. On the other hand... Three...... ugh. Never gonna use a three phone EVER again.
Oh well. i want orange to release the nokia on contract for about 100 pounds or 50 or somewhere in between (on a 25-30 pounds/month contract)..
NOW NOW NOW!!!
Question, can I use my SIM card from my 3650 and buy this phone and use it?
I'm on AT&T in the states.
I'm no legend. And i'm not TERRIBLY sure. Check what GSM thingies AT&T uses in your current area, and then get a sim-free nokia 7610. It should work in America as well.. but america has some funky thing going on with frequencies so i wouldnt know.
Yes.
Well. June 4th is long gone and the thing has started shipping. I asked about the Nokia 7610 to Orange, within 24 hrs i got this email.

Orange Customer Services
---------------
Quite vague, I must admit. But still, they answered. Orange UK's customer service is so admirable~
In any case. Looking at the competition. I think of the newest phones, the nokia 7610 SHOULD be a clear winner. But then, they're not all really comparable and all. But yeah, in my needs, symbian beats all! lol.
