HCA-20 Installation Problems

Recently had the HCA-20 professionally installed in my Boxster and it didn't work! The unit was replaced by SE with a new one and it doesn't seem to work either. The mike and charger work but the P800 does not recognize that it is handsfree and there is no output from either the speaker jack or the socket for the enhanced mute option. I am wondering if there is something amiss with the system cable (HCC-20). Has anyone else had HCA-20 installation problems?

just a wild guess...

check at the Phone Preferences in the TTY Accessory if it's checked.. as you may not use Handsfree when it's on

Good idea, however it wasn't checked. Interestingly when I connect a hands free cord (ear piece with integral mike) the phone indicates it's on hands free.....just won't do it for the HCA-20.

Thanks anyway,
Rick

I am using the HCA-20 in my Acura with no problems at all. It charges fine, voice dials with magic word fine and also uses an external antenna.

I bought the music mute option but it doesn't appear it's going to be compatible with my radio. 😡 I wish SE would publish a list saying what it's compatable with or give better guidence before people buy one and possibly waste their money.

I have also Installed an HCA-20 in my 1998 E-320, It works great,
I wired it myself into the comand 2.0 system in my car, It has excelent sound, charges great, I di notice several issues, It will turn itself (the phone) off after the ignition has been disengaged an hour, but It will not turn the phone on when I start the car (not sure if it supposed to do it ??) I did wire the original mute feature, but it would never sense when it was on ? (Never muted)
I opted to buy the Advance mute feature which uses the ISO standard connectors
which will mute your head unit and pipes the sound into your speakers (very cool)
and work great with no feedback.

I would like to get an attenna, but have been unable to locate a GSM/GPRS attenna ?

Any suggestions ?

Thanks !
Hank

pacrtg: have you checked to see if you have a problematic connector? I have the same in-car kit and sometimes notice that it has difficult connections and therefore does not show the "Car" message, or sometimes it is connected and then flips back to "Handsfree" (I can't remember if that's the right title for this mode). I know it has something to do with the connection of the connector on the bottom of the phone because sometimes I have a flaky connection with the charging cable too.

Apart from that, I have had several callers complain that they hear feedback when they talk, anyone else had this? I think I'll have to go back to the installer and find out what's going on, I have it installed in a 2001 BMW 320i.

Lonnie
