Thank you very much for looking.
menu -> Profiles -> select profile -> Options -> Personalise -> Ringing tone
List is sound files in z:\Nokia\Sounds\Digital, z:\Nokia\Sounds\Simple, c:\Nokia\Sounds\Digital, c:\Nokia\Sounds\Simple
Built-in support for at least .rng, .mid, .wav, .amr and possibly also .awb sound file formats.

wow, thank you very much. Just a couple more things, what the heck are the z: ... links ? and also, how would I get sound files from my computer to my memory card (i'm assuming ir or bluetooth ) and once I do that, how do I select those .wav files to play as ringers ? ( aka, how would I choose files from my memory card when changing the ringers ?)
you think you could e-mail me ?
youve been a huge help by the way.
The z: etc. stuff are drives and folders/directories on the phone. You can see them with a file manager app such as FExplorer (http://www.fexplorer.com). The Z-drive is the phone's Read-Only Memory (ROM) and the C-drive is writable storage memory in the phone. The E-drive would be the memory card.
You can get sound files to your phone in several ways:
- Send them from the PC using infrared (IrDA) -> built in feature in Windows
- Send them from the PC using Bluetooth -> built in feature in most current Bluetooth software packages
- Transfer them from the PC using PC Suite (over IrDA or Bluetooth)
- Use a PC-based MMC reader and write them to the MMC on the PC and then put the card in the phone.
- Send them as attachments to an email account, which you have configured to access from the phone.
- Put them on a web or WAP server that you can access with the phone's built-in browser ("Services"😉 or one installed afterwards (e.g., Opera).
When you use the "send" approach above, the sound files end up in your Messaging app Inbox on the phone. From there you can open the messages and save the sound files. Then you can use the menu -> Profiles route to select them for a particular profile.
You can also in Contacts assign individual ringtones to groups of people (which you also define in Contacts).
May I also suggest that you read through the User's Guide. Quite many things are explained in that manual, that you'd otherwise have to ask about even if you already have the info in that manual. 😉
For the benefit for all readers, I prefer just to reply here than send email to anyone.
OK, I'm gonna buy an MMC reader/writer from work tomorow, theyr eonly like $ 25. My main question is, once I've got the song file on the card, how do i select it from the card as a ringer ? Because of as now, I only have a preslected directory. Upon detecting a .wav file on the card while I automatically have the option of choosing the mmc as a separate drive ?
Again, youve been the hugest help ever, and believe me, I read through every last page of the manual, and its not that big a help when it comes to ringers or anything associated with the mmc.
With the MMC reader, put the sound files in the folder/directory I specified (/Nokia/Sounds/Digital) and then in the Profiles app select it from the list (it'll show up there).
