power button failure.. can it be replaced?

i'm suffering from a totally dead powerbutton (ie i have to take the backing off and insert a knife into the slot and push slightly in order to power up now) and my casings been scratched due to various droppings over the last year.. if i replace the casing with a 3rd party one, will this be sufficient to fix the power problem, or is that mechanism not part of it ?

ouch, sounds expensive. my fone isn't covered, so i'll probably just leave it until i upgrade in about 6 months time (my trick is to never let it turn off 😃 ) have no intention of selling the phone off anyway, so probably not worth the time/money it'd take to be fixed. thanks anyway tho!

i payed 125$ to repair the damn on-off button and had 3 months wait...
