i have just noticed that a pixel has died on my screen, what should i do, i bought the phone of ebay, its in its box and i think there is a warrenty card in there as well, fill it out and then send it off?"??

Hi Draz1k,

A faulty display needs 3 or more damaged pixels to be replaced by a nokia service center, or two pixels within a range of 5mm.

cheers for that mate, it just it sticks out like a sore thumb. 😞

I know, i got a pixel thats red when the background is black, bought mine new.

i always see a red dit when playing a game or looking at video. :frown:

Man, I think this really sucks. I mean honestly, manufacturers are just applying this stupid rule across the board. From your notebook - with 1024 by 768 pixels display (786432 dots in all) to Pocket PC - with 320 by 240 pixels display (76800 dots in all) and Nokia 6600 with 176 by 208 pixels display (36608 dots in all)

Do the Math -

3 bad pixels out of 786432 = 0.0003814697265625 %
3 bad pixels out of 36608 = 0.0081949300699300699300699300699301 %

Come on, are Symbian Series 60 manufacturer's QC only (36608/786432) * 100 % = 4.65 % of that of notebook manufacturers? Ever heard of Six Sigma?

If your 6600 was a 1024-by-768 pixel notebook, they'd only change it for you if you have 64 bad pixels (0.0081949300699300699300699300699301 % of 786432) - heck.....makes me weep.......

Yeah, it is. U know people were complaining about this so-called 3-pixel rule for the notebook. I mean, in the industry, they were saying that QC should be good enough for consumers to get perfect displays with NO missing pixels. Nowadays, most manufacturers have adopted this 3-pixel rule - with the exception of Acer (hats off to you, Acer) - they have a Dot-free policy for their Notebooks in Thailand. 1-dot within 1 year and you can get it exchanged.

As far as Nokia is concerned, I was a bit shocked to see this 1-page leaflet that they stuck into the User Manual which basically says that Bad Pixels are perfectly normal and are not considered "Defects". U guys get that abroad as well?

So, yeah, nothing you can do but check for the Bad Pixels before you pay for your phone. :icon13:

I do not know which service center told you that in order to exchange the phone--- you need to have three dead pixels. But I bought my new and staright away there was one bright white dead pixel, I send the phone for back for replacement straight away and nobody complained about how many dead pixels you should have. Try calling Nokia and telling them about the problem, they will change it, many people did and got their phones changed.

I work at a nokia/Sony Ericsson/samsung repair center and a asked some guyes about it and that is what they told me!
This is in the netherlands an there was no leaflet in my manual.
PS i work for SE and if a pixel is dead the display is replaced!!!!

Well, strictly speaking, the info leaflet with that condition is in the box which is sealed. As a consumer, that bit of information was NEVER made known to us before and during the sales of the phone. Phone makers had also not make any efforts to publish this condition.

So, any defective pixel = defective handphone and should warrant a replacement set or replacement screen FOC during warranty.

Basically, if u make a scene at the service centre, they will replace the set or the screen for you.
