I heard about memory sticks which work on the p900 that are 2x128 mb sticks. I.e. It's double sided or its got a little switch on it which means you can switch from each 128 mb partition.
True or what ? Does it work on the p900 ?

ok so since this thread is here my ? is something related to it. wht i want to know that is there ne sony mem stick of 256mb workin right now with the p900. also whts the diff between mem stick, mem stick duo and magic gate. since im using nokia now i am gettin a p900 very soon so plz help me out with this small thing thx a lot in advance. did do a search dint get much of it .
Memory Stick: The normal "long" memory stick
Memory Stick Duo: The smaller version (about half the size) that fits in the P800/900
Magic Gate: Some kind of copyright protection thing for MP3 players from sony. However if you put this kind of cards in the P800/900 they will work as normal ones
Memory Stick (duo) Pro: You didn't ask this one, but before you do: These cards are the same as normal ones only they support higher capacities. However you CAN'T use these sticks in the P900.
Therefore the P900 does not support 256MB cards or higher, only cards up to 128MB.
See www.memorystick.com. Shows all the different types. The colours also tell you what they are
There is also the Memory Stick Duo - High speed (dark blue) however these do not work super fast on the P800 or P900. They do work but as the P*00 only uses the serial interface it doesnt get the 160mb transfer rate that the parallel interface will give you.
As for the 256mb memory stick. Yes, it does exist. Its a "Memory Stick with memory select" BUT its only available in the full sized stick. Not the smaller DUO format.
These sticks house 2x128mb wafers and you select which one you can use via a switch.
There is talk of the P900 supporting the memory stick pro with a firmware update. Check out www.memorystick.com and they themselves say that it is possible to support the format via a firmware upgrade but again, it wont have the highspeed capabilities cos the P900 only uses serial.
Thanks for the info, but do you have idea of the price differencebetween sony and Sandisk and Lexmark?
Delta737 wrote:Yes. Sandisk and Lexmark sell them as well!
quite a bit of difference 😃
There all the same, they use Sony's specs and standards. I have a sandisk and have no problems.
I got my 128mb Sandisk from eBay for 33 including delivery, you can get a new Sony one from amazon.co.uk for 44
ok thx for that full description there. helped me. so y does not sony make the small mem stick in 128x2 i think it will sell. ne 3rd party company makin those sort then. cuz im really looking forward to gettin a p900 in 2 months time. but i want atleast 256mb nehow. also waiting for a p900 replacement so i can get a p900 for cheaper then. lol. lets see thx for the help neways guys.
cos there isnt enough space.
The memory stick architecture is flawed in that the max size a Memory Stick wafer can hold is 128mb, the pro sticks are just lots of 128mb wafers.
The memory select ones are several wafers but you use a switch to select which one you are using.
