Bluetooth and IRDA question. Please help.

Im thinking of buying a Bluetooth or Infa red device, to go with my phone
My question is

If I do so can I use the phone as a modem to connect to the internet
1. what speeds can it connect at?
2. Does it work just like a have a normal modem, so it just costs the basic connect charges and then im on my ISP for as long as I want end of story??

Thanks in advance, this is very crucial stuff in aiding me in my purchasing.

common dont make me ring up the telecommunicastions hotline to find out all this and spend 1hr talking to a customer setvice person whop doesnt know what time of day it is

22 views and no one has used there phone as a modem, common??

Just enlighten me a little on how the phone goes when its used as a modem??

wow

you must be very rich to use the 7650 as a modem

cos if i dial your ISP the cost will be at local call charge

and if u using GPRS i can't imagine how much you will gonna pay for the GPRS 😃

the speed is at 43.333 not 56.6666

no no\

GPRS is the cost of download kbs through your telecommunication service

I would be using my ISP, so it would run off my ISP download settings right?

so all I would pay is for the connection call to dialup the net wouldnt I?

noooo your not following me my bamboozled friend

Okay weve established you would pay for the cost of a local phone call to dial in your ISP. Correct. we agree on that.

BUT heres were were getting lost.
See GPRS data is sent through your telecommunication service eg Vodphone, telstra, optus etc.

The phone when it acts as a modem wont be connecting to the telecommunication services it will be connectiing to the Internet Service Provider settings which are SEPERATE from the tele.

Therefore you wont be paying for GPRS data that is sent though as the phone will be just acting as a stand alone modem

Am I correct, can anyone confirm or deny my theory on this??

i said

if you dial your ISP you will just pay for the local call charge, it is because you call your ISP through your network.

or in other words

there are two ways that the phone can act as modem

1st method is using GPRS and with this method you;ll be charge with the amount of data send and receive to and from your mobile.

2nd method is call your ISP and you not using any GPRS thingy just call your ISP and the connection is established then you just charge for the local call charge cos you dial your ISP through your mobile

 😉

ah okay
well who the hell would use the 1st method then?

with the second method ya pay for the call, and then ya free no GPRS charges so who one arth would use the 1st method and why.

A well it boggles the mind but as long as I can do the 1st option i do believe im off to go purchase a IR device or BT connector.

Thanks

In Indonesia for almost 1 year maybe you can use GPRS for free

but now it is still free but with 5MB limit

and maybe u should buy BT cos it;s will be easier to put your phone anywhere near your pc and you still connected rahter than infrared becarefull not to move the phone or you;ll be disconnected lol

btw what is the compatible BT device for 7650. I heard than we can;t send files from 7650 to pc cos 7650 uses the push object method or something like that ???

really, ahh gees I think ill just buy a damn IR device, sucks about always having to have it aligned, but I dont want to have to spend a week studying whihc BT device I have to buy

I thought it would be compatible with all BT devices, I thought they were all a common protocol, apparently and typically not.

Advice on Bluetooth: The problem is the flawed nature of the PC suite software, not the bluetooth device

Go for the TDK on as I've heard good things about it . I've got the 3com one which is perfectly usable once you've got it set up (if you get it set up 😊) - I've detailed how to set up the 3com one in a another thread on this site if you need it.

don;t buy TDK bluetooth

to wahchild

btw can u send picture from 7650 to pc with 3com bluetooth ??

Yeah - very easy it is too.

You click 'send via bluetooth' on the phone and then the computer asks you where you want it.

The only problem I've had is with PC Suite - but I've got them ironed out now as well.

I tend to send the images to the ipaq during the day though (as it has more memory) then they download during sync
