OK, I am officially frustrated with Bluetooth and the 6600. I have read the posts here, have even tried to follow them but to no avail.
Therefore, my problem:
 new 6600
 Windows XP SP2 RC1
DELL Inspiron 8500 with built-in Bluetooth
I have tried all the tricks below with the DELL s/w in and have now removed it so just have XP Bluetooth s/w installed.
I have removed all the s/w installed (nokia PC Suit many times). Have run nokia clean registry and have the latest version of the PC Suite s/w from the website.
I can pair my phone with XP. This allows me to send and receive files just fine.
Examining the Bluetooth device I have:
COM5 Outgoing Ray Bluetooth Serial Port
 COM8 incoming Ray
If I look at the service on the device I have:
Dial-up networking (DUN) COM9 (yes it says 9)
Serial Port (SPP) Bluetooth Serial Port COM5
If I then install PC Suite mrouter appears and double clicking gives:
 Cable COM1 Not connected
 Cable COM3 Not connected
 Unknown COM5 Not connected
 Unknown COM8 Not connected
 Unknown COM9 Not connected
 Internal Not connected
 Bluetooth COM500 Not connected
If I try to select COM5 it wont let me: it is not possible to enable that port
I can select COM8, COM9, COM500 but no joy.
If I right click mrouter and do connect to a bluetooth device I can see the phone, it is paired and says already connected. If I select it I get Failed to connect to Ray A socket operation failed because the destination host was down
Other than that Ive been round every combination of installs/setup that I can think off some smart suggestions would be really appreciated.
Thanks in advance
ray
Did u install PC Suite into the root directory C drive?
Do you have McAfee Firewall? If so then remove it. (Not just disable but remove)
In answer to your queries:
PC suit installed to default path (i.e., whever InstallShield put it, it wasn't C:\)
I have McAfee Virus Scan Enterprise running (7.1.0), no firewall there as far as I know.
XP SP2 RC1 also installs Microsoftfirewall. This has been set to allow mrouter as an exception and pass through.

Try C:..... tat is a requirement (or defect).
😃
Sorry I should have been more explicit. PC Suite was not installed in the root directory C:\ but in a subdirectory of the installations programs choosing, which was on C drive (i.e., the executible is installed in "c:\program files\nokia\pc suite for nokia 6600\..."😉
ray, still really peeved with this
did u ever get this sorted??
Mort wrote:did u ever get this sorted??
having same problem even contacted nokia who told me to use the windows drivers only and that should sort it. But it didn't
arrrgghhhh
This is still not sorted - see http://www.allaboutsymbian.com/forum//forum/thread/27420/
I think the problem is at Nokia. I got the same, try the windows drivers only (i.e., not the dell installed ones). However, whenI got someones else in technical I got a very honest sounding "...I'm working on it right now and we don't have a solution as yet...."
This is a real pain as I don;t have an IR port so can't access my contacts.
when i reformatted PC (for other reasons) all my PC suite problems were gone, I have since installed xp pro (had XP home errrrrr) and all is working fine. I am convinced reformatting PC - (which everyone should do every couple of years, imo) will sort most problems for most people - ALTHOUGH I CANT GUARANTEE IT.

If that was a question, YES. Tried hundreds of time before and had no joy, could do the pim transfer but no permanent connection.
